Tarleton falls in opening round of regional tournament to Lubbock Christian

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – Tarleton's season came to an end with an 84-53 loss to No. 24 Lubbock Christian in the opening round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.

The TexAnns finish the season 22-9 after making their third straight regional tournament. It's the most wins in a season for the TexAnns since 2014 and the most under head coach Misty Wilson.

Lubbock Christian shot a blistering 61 percent and made 11-18 3-point attempts in the game to pull away from the TexAnns. Tarleton and LCU were back and forth for the first quarter, with the TexAnns holding a 14-12 lead midway through the opening frame. Lubbock Christian took a 19-16 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

The Chaparrals outscored the TexAnns 31-12 in the second quarter to lead 50-28 at halftime. The lead grew to 32 after a 25-15 third quarter.

Mackenzie Hailey led the TexAnns with 22 points and posted nine rebounds. It's the fifth 20-point game by a TexAnn in a regional game in program history. Hailey is the only player in program history with two 20-point games in the NCAA regional tournament (scored 23 points vs. CSU-Pubelo last season). Hailey also finished the season as the team's leading scorer for the third straight season. The last Texann to lead the team in scoring three straight years was head coach Misty Wilson when she did it form 2000-02.

The TexAnns had four seniors on the roster playing their final game: Katie Webster, McKinley Bostad, Kaylee Allen and Hannah Hyde. Webster had five points, Bostad posted six points, Allen had four and Hyde had two.

Kylie Collins posted seven points, Nina Alvarez had three and Kandyn Faurie and Marissa Escamilla each had two.
