STEPHENVILLE – A pair of five-run innings were too much for Tarleton to overcome as the Texans suffered a sweep at the hands of Angelo State Saturday afternoon.
The Rams scored five runs in the top of the first, but Tarleton answered back with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Jacob Walker,
Tyler Fowler, and
Blake Burns started off the Tarleton offense by loading the bases before
Jon Law drove Walker home with an RBI single to get the Texans on the board.
Tyler Parker drove in two with a single into left and
Zach Mesa capped off the inning with an RBI single into center to bring the Texans within one after the opening frame.
The score remained the same until the fourth when Angelo State added five more. They tacked on one more in the fifth, two in the seventh, and six in the ninth while the Texans added only an RBI single from
Dylan Antonelli in the eighth.
Walker,
Tyler Fowler and Mesa led the way with two hits each while
Jon Law,
Tyler Parker, and Antonelli had one hit each.
Hunter Thomas, Law,
Chris Reed and
Case Rolen combined for work on the mound. Law (3), Reed (3) and Rolen (4) combined for 10 strikeouts.
Tarleton will head to Eastern New Mexico next weekend for a four-game series against the Greyhounds.
