KINGSVILLE – Tarleton suffered losses in both games of Friday's doubleheader Friday afternoon against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Nolan Ryan Field.
Game 1: Texas A&M-Kingsville 6, Tarleton 0
Tarleton was shutout in the series opener while the Javelinas scored five in the first and never looked back to take game one.
The Javelinas scored five in the first and one in the sixth for their six runs. Otherwise,
Brian Archibald and
Case Rolen combined to put up goose eggs in the other four innings. The seniors combined to pitch 7.0 innings and struck out seven.
Sam Scarborough and Jacob had one hit each for Tarleton's offense.
Game 2: Texas A&M-Kingsville 3, Tarleton 2
Tarleton couldn't hold on to a late lead in game two of Friday's twin bill as the Javelinas scored three unanswered in the final two innings to spoil a career-best pitching performance from
Ty Jones.
The Texans cracked the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the third when
Sam Scarborough led off the inning with a single and
Jacob Walker followed with a double down the right field line.
Blake Burns and
Jon Law followed up with a RBI single and a RBI fielder's choice, respectively to give the Texans a 2-0 lead.
The Javelinas scored one in the sixth to cut the Tarleton lead in half and the Texans got two outs, but were unable to record the final one as Kingsville hit a RBI single to tie things up at 2-2 and then walked off on a single and an error.
Jones was spectacular in the starting role for Tarleton. The junior right-hander tossed 5.2 innings of work and allowed one run on four hits while punching out five.
Brett Gilchrist took the loss in relief and struck out two.
Scarborough, Walker, Burns, and
Tyler Parker accounted for Tarleton's four hits on offense.
Tarleton and Texas A&M-Kingsville will resume the series tomorrow with a single game at 2 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field.
