STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Baseball splits its Saturday doubleheader with UT Permian Basin to open a four-game weekend series.
Game 1: Tarleton 3, UT Permian Basin 2
Jordan Parker hit a walk-off solo home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Texans in game one.
Parker's first home run of the season was enough to give pitcher
Brian Archibald the victory in a complete game outing. Archibald (6-4) tossed a complete game three hitter – his fourth complete game of the season – allowing only one earned run with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Leading up to the seventh inning heroics, the Texans opened the scoring with a run by
Jon Law on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Fowler added the second run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for a 2-0 Texan advantage.
UT Permian Basin added a run in the sixth and seventh to tie the score at 2-2 before Parker's leadoff home run in the seventh.
The Texans out hit the Falcons 5-3 in the game and were led by Law's 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Parker,
Jacob Walker and
Blake Burns all added hits in the opener.
Game 2: UT Permian Basin 9, Tarleton 2
UT Permian Basin scored eight runs in the final four innings to pull away from the Texans in the second game of the doubleheader.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 through five innings after
Tyler Fowler's RBI groundout to even up the score. The Falcons responded with two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth after a pitcher's duel to start the game.
Seven different Texans pitched in the contest, with
Jacob Cornell throwing 2.1 innings and allowing one hit with three strikeouts early in the game.
Mitchell Morris followed with 2.2 innings with two runs allowed for the longest relief effort by the Texans.
Zach Mesa scored on a passed ball in the sixth to give the Texans their second run of the game.
Offensively, the Texans had six hits in the game led by Fowler's 2-for-3 performance.

Tarleton and UT Permian Basin will close out the regular season with a doubleheader on Sunday, May 5 starting at 1 p.m. The Texans will honor its seven seniors before the first game.
