Tarleton adds D1 Bethune-Cookman to 2020 football schedule

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Football has added a road game at Bethune-Cookman to its 2020 schedule, giving the Texans another NCAA Division I opponent.

The Texans will travel to Daytona, Florida to take on the Wildcats on October 31 at a time yet to be determined. Bethune-Cookman, who went 7-4 last season, is in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, an FCS competing conference.

The game takes the place of NCAA Division II Western Oregon, who the Texans were set to host on the same day.

Tarleton still has 11 games in its first year transitioning to an NCAA Division I university, which the football team will compete as an independent. The Texans will have six home games and five road games. Of the 11 games, seven are against Division I programs, which is more than the 50-percent minimum requirement of a first-year transitioning program.

All home games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Road game times have not yet been set. All times are subject to change.

The Texans will be competing as an FCS Independent program in 2020 while Tarleton State University transitions into the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), which does not sponsor football at this time. 2020 will serve as the first of four transition seasons for Tarleton.
