Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Range scores career-high 21 points in largest win of season over Cameron

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton men's basketball had its largest margin of victory on the season as the Texans pounded Cameron 84-58 on Saturday in Wisdom Gym.

The 26-point win improves the Texans to 14-8 overall and they reached double-digit conference wins at 10-6 in the Lone Star Conference.

Five Texans scored in double figures in the rout, led by freshman Isaiah Range's career-high 21-point outing on 10-16 shooting. Sophomore Dexter Johnson also had a career performance as he poured in a personal best 13 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting (3-3 on 3-pointers).

Tarleton shot 54 percent on the afternoon but the defense was the story as the Texans limited Cameron (6-16, 5-11) to a season-low 32 percent shooting. The 58 points allowed by the Texans is the lowest total given up in conference play this season, which they've done three times now.

The two squads exchanged buckets for the first 10 minutes of play as the Texans held a slim 15-14 lead. The Texans turned it up a notch on both ends of the court with a 22-4 run over the next six minutes for a 17-point lead, 35-18.

Tarleton's biggest lead of the half came on the final shot when Zach Naylor drilled a corner 3-pointer to beat the buzzer for a 20-point halftime lead, 42-22. Naylor posted his first career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11rebounds. It's the third straight double-digit scoring game for Naylor, the longest stretch of the season for the Houston native.

The Texans came out on fire in the second half, connecting on 57 percent of its shots. Range led the way with 13 of his 21 points on 6-8 shooting in the final half. Leading 47-31, Range scored five straight points as part of a 10-0 Texan run to extend the lead to 26. The lead never fell below 20 the rest of the game as Jaraan Lands put the finishing touches on the contest with a turnaround jumper for a game-high 29-point lead in the final minute.

Joining Range, Johnson and Naylor's double-digit scoring performances were Clashon Gaffney and Devin Bethely. Gaffney had 11 points and seven rebounds while Bethely posted 10 points and a game-high six assists.

Additional scoring came from Javontae Hopkins (8 points), Josh Hawley (6 points, 9 rebounds), Isaiah Boling (3 points) and Jaraan Lands (2 points).

Tarleton will look to make it four straight wins against its toughest test of the season when they travel to Canyon to take on No. 3 West Texas A&M on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
