Women’s Basketball Game Day: Lone Star Conference Tournament

The Texans will battle Eastern New Mexico in the quarterfinals on Thursday in Frisco

AT A GLANCE
The Tarleton Women's Basketball team (21-7, 15-7 LSC) will head to the Comerica Center in Frisco for the 2020 Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. The Texans claimed the fourth seed in the tournament, which clinched a first-round bye into the quarterfinals this week. They will play Eastern New Mexico, who defeated Oklahoma Christian in the play-in round.

LAST TIME OUT
The Texans clinch the No. 4 seed in the LSC Tournament and the Co-Divisional Champion title after a commanding win over Texas A&M-Kingsville, 66-37, on the road.
 
Tarleton shot 45.1 percent from the field and stand at 17-0 on the season when shooting over 40 percent. The Texans forced 25 Javelina turnovers and scored 22 points of them. 
 
Mackenzie Hailey led the Texans with 22 points, her 26th career 20+ point game. The senior added four rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Marissa Escamilla tallied 18 points, one-point shy of her career-high. Escamilla has shot over 50% from the field in the last 10 games. The sophomore also added four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in her second career start.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES: EASTERN NEW MEXICO 
After trailing for 37 straight minutes, the Texans went on a 12-0 run in the final 1:59 of the game to stun Eastern New Mexico on the road, 54-52, on February 15th.
 
The Texans lead the all-time series 35-17 and hold the advantage in neutral site games, 3-0. Eastern New Mexico, the fifth seed in the tournament, defeated 12th seed Oklahoma Christian in the play-in round on Tuesday, 70-52, to advance to the quarterfinals.
 
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Texans stayed at No. 8 in this week's NCAA South Central Regional poll. The Texans have defeated four of the 10 regionally-ranked teams this season, coming up with road wins against St. Edward's, West Texas A&M, and Eastern New Mexico, while defeating Colorado Mesa at home in the second game of the season.
 
Tarleton has qualified for nine NCAA regional tournaments, including each of the last three seasons, which is the second-longest streak in program history.

HEAD COACH MISTY WILSON RADIO SHOW
The Misty Wilson Radio Show takes place every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. from the lobby of First Financial Bank. The sixth-year head coach of the Texans will join Kyle Crews for a 30-minute program each week to discuss previous performances, upcoming opponents, and other storylines. Student-Athletes will join the show as well.
