Late innings doom Texans in series opener at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron scored 10 runs between the sixth and eighth innings and it proved too much too late for the Texans to overcome and Tarleton dropped the series opener 13-6 Friday afternoon.

After Cameron scored first, Tarleton's Tyler Fowler evened things up with an RBI double in the third. The Aggies had a two-run answer in the third to lead 3-1 and that score would carry into the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Jordan Parker, Dean Frew and Zach Mesa loaded the bases on a hit by pitch, walk, and hit by pitch, respectively, and then Fowler cashed in another RBI with a single to left that forced the Aggies into their bullpen. London Green had a rude welcome for the new arm as the junior outfielder singled to right field to plate two more and put Tarleton on top 4-3.

The Aggies answered with four in the sixth and six in the eighth to take a 13-4 lead. Corey Young tacked on a two-run double in the ninth, but Tarleton could inch no closer.

All six RBI came from the top three in the batting order – Fowler, Green and Young – with two each. Fowler and Green each had two hits on the day while Young, Frew and Reed Hamilton had one hit each to round out the offense.

Tarleton used six pitchers on the mound, starting with Justin Waltmon who went the first five innings with nine strikeouts. Tyler Thompson, Luke Baley, Jacob Mattox, Easton Brown and Ty Windham pitched in relief.

Tarleton and Cameron will return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader at McCord Field.
