KANSAS CITY – When Tarleton soccer takes the field in August, its inaugural roster will boast one of the top junior college midfielders in the nation from 2021.
Jenaya Brown, who signed with Tarleton on Nov. 10, was selected as a Junior College Division I All-American by United Soccer Coaches.
Brown, who spent the past two seasons at Laramie County Community College, was one of just 15 players overall and nine at her position to receive the honor.
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Brown led the Golden Eagles to NJCAA Region IX Regular Season and Tournament Championships this fall. She started all 18 games for LCCC, tallying 10 goals and six assists to the tune of 26 points.
Brown, 5-4 was an offensive standout on an LCCC squad that advanced to the NJCAA National Championships during the Spring 2021 season. Brown recorded seven assists and scored three goals. She led her conference in assists and goals scored and ranked 27th nationally among all junior college players in total assists. Brown was particularly efficient in front of the net, as she posted a .556 shot on goal percentage.
She moved to the United States following a prep career at St. Francis Xavier High School and on the club soccer circuit with the Sherwood Park Phoenix.
In addition to the pitch, Brown also stars in the classroom. She earned NJCAA second team All-Academic honors in 2020-21, was an honor student all four years of high school and was the recipient of the Dr. Cafarro Heart & Soul Student Athlete Award. Brown intends to major in kinesiology at Tarleton.
Brown currently is the lone junior college player head coach Pete Cuadrado has signed. The Texans inked 16 players on the Initial Signing Date on Nov. 10 and announced the addition of Lauren Grissom on Nov. 18. Cuadrado and assistant coach Rex Carrell anticipate adding 6-7 more players in the coming months to round out their roster.
