STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton couldn't get their bats hot today, dropping their doubleheader against Sacramento State to begin Western Athletic Conference play.

The Hornets shutout the Texans in the front half of the doubleheader allowing only two Texan hits. In the back half of the doubleheader the Texans fell 17-3 in seven innings.

Game 1: Sacramento State 6, Tarleton 0

The Texans and Hornets had a pitchers dual going between
Alex Pinedo and Scott Randall for the first three innings of game one with neither team scoring a run. Â

Tarleton couldn't get their bats going in game one only recording two hits in the game off of singles from
Tyler Fowler and
Corey Young.
Â
Pinedo recorded three strikeouts and allowed seven hits.
Zach Poe pitched two innings with two strikeouts and allowing one run before
Zach Gagnon came in and closed out the game striking out one and allowing no hits.

Game 2: Sacramento State 17, Tarleton 3

Game two was slated to go nine innings but the Hornets got the job done in seven today. The Texans bats started to pick up in game two with eight hits, but it wasn't enough to out hit the Hornets who recorded 15.

Tarleton got one run across in the bottom of the first with a single to third base from
Colby Seltzer which scored
Bryan Aguilar after a double and a wild pitch advanced him to third.

Bryan Aguilar and
Colby Feris each had a two-hit outing with four more Texans recording one hit in the game. The big hits of the day came in the bottom of the sixth when
Kade Turnage and
Ian Groves hit back-to-back solo home runs. These were the first home runs of the year for both Turnage and Groves.

Justin Waltmon,
Ty Jones and
Sid Payan all recorded a strikeout on the mound for the Texans in game two combining for 5.2 innings pitched.

The Texans will take on Sacramento State for game three of the four-game series tomorrow at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex where first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
