Anterius Brown named TicketSmarter WAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week

STEPHENVILLE – It only took one meet for Anterius Brown to announce himself as a frontrunner for the Western Athletic Conference's 400m crown.

Indeed, Brown was named the TicketSmarter WAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week after clocking the conference's fastest 400m time (47.68) on Saturday at the Wes Kittley ACU Invitational. Brown, a three-time NCAA Division II All-American, took second in the event and also led Tarleton's 4x400n relay team to a third-place finish with a time of 3:16.52.

"What a deserving honor for a young man that has disciplined himself every day to get better," head coach Pat Ponder said. "His goals are pretty high, and I'm 100 percent with him on those. He wants to make his final year extremely impressionable. That's a great honor for him to achieve and I know it will help him at practices."

The Texans' 4x400m relay team currently ranks second in the conference. Brown will next race in the 4x400m relay on Friday at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. He will be joined by Brandon McKissick, Zachary Martinez and Alan Palmer.

Brown, a senior from Dallas, owns school records in the 400m (47.24) and as a part of a 4x400m relay team (3:13.30). He broke both records and finished second in each event at the 2020 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships. Brown was slated to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in both events prior to the cancellation of spring sports.

He first earned All-American credentials as a sophomore in 2018. The Duncanville HS graduate helped Tarleton's outdoor 4x400m relay team post an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Brown was a third team All-LSC selection during the 2019 outdoor track and field season.

Brown has notched 28 combined top-five finishes for his career in the 400m and 4x400m and distance medley relays.
