Texans avoid shut out in loss to Utah Valley on Senior Day

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – A late game goal during Senior Day from the Texans prevented a shutout at home on Sunday, but ultimately Utah Valley took the victory in a decisive 6-1 victory.

Tarleton (4-9-3, 0-7-2 WAC) hosted the second ranked team in the WAC, Utah Valley (11-3-3, 7-1-1 WAC), for their final home game of the inaugural season. The Wolverines were the first to make it on the scoreboard just 10 minutes into the first half courtesy of a goal by Heather Stainbrook, her first of two goals for the match. Four other Wolverines contributed to the scoresheet on the day including: Faith Webber, Julianna Carter, Haley Richardson and Madeline Moore. The Texans' leading goal scorer, Mila Bettinelli, prevented the Utah Valley shutout when she found the back of the net in the 89th minute of play. None other than the lone senior, Kiki Baurmann, made the assisting pass to Bettinelli to get the Texans on the board.

Goalkeeper Mikalya Kendall recorded a season-high eight saves on the match and Bettinelli added her sixth goal of the season.

It was Senior Day for Tarleton's lone senior, Baurmann, who has been a mainstay for the team throughout its first season in history. The graduate student from Meerbusch, Germany currently leads the team in assists so far this season with six.

Head Coach Pete Cuadrado had this to say about Baurmann's role on the inaugural team so far this season, "Kiki has been a fantastic player on and off the field for our program. To only have one year of eligibility left and come to a first-year program says a lot about how special she truly is."

The Texans are back on the road for their final two matches of the season, starting with Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas on Thursday at 7 pm.
