STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton dropped a match in straight sets (17-25, 22-25, 19-25) to Utah Valley on Thursday night in Wisdom Gym.
 
The Texans (11-14, 3-7 WAC) were unable to keep pace with the Wolverines (14-7, 8-1 WAC) who hit .289 to Tarleton's .157. The Wolverines landed 42 kills compared to the Texans 32, as well as nine aces to the Texans three.
 
Tarleton was paced by Megan Haynes who posted a match-high 13 kills on .391 hitting. Breanna McDonough added six kills, three digs and two blocks. Megan Hodges led with 29 assists to pair with four digs.
 
Utah Valley had three players, Kazna Tanuvasa, Tori Dorius and Avery Shewell, land nine kills. Shewell led both teams with a .571 hitting clip. Natalie Palmer added 20 assists while Bryton Nixon finished with 13 digs.
 
The Texans held an early 8-7 lead in set one, but it was the last lead they saw until they scored the first point in set three. Set two was the closest of the three as Tarleton whittled the lead to three late when they made it 23-20. Haynes followed that up with a kill to make it 23-21. UVU answered with a kill from Tanuvasa followed by another kill from Haynes to make It 24-22. The Wolverines ended the set with another kill from Tanuvasa to take it 25-22.
 
Tarleton will host Seattle U on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in Wisdom Gym. The match is the Texans senior day as well as spooky Saturday where fans are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.
