STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton baseball head coach
Aaron Meade announced the 54-game slate for the upcoming spring season on Thursday, set to begin Feb. 17 in San Antonio against UTSA.
Â
The schedule consists of 30 home games at the soon to be newly renovated Tarleton Baseball Complex, with 24 games on the road. Season tickets go on sale Tuesday.
Â
"We can't wait to open up our brand-new stadium by hosting 30 games here in Texan Nation," said Meade. "Our non-conference slate is very competitive and will prepare our guys for an expanded WAC schedule that will be as challenging as ever."
Â
The Texans open the season with a three-game series at UTSA after the Roadrunners opened the 2022 season in Stephenville. Other non-conference games include at UIW (Feb. 21), vs. Stonehill College (Feb. 24-26) at Oral Roberts (March 1), vs. Prairie View A&M (March 3-5), vs. Oral Roberts (March 14), at UC Riverside (April 12), at Baylor (April 25) and at Texas A&M (May 2), among others.
Â
Two home games that stand out are TCU (April 4) and Baylor (May 16) making the trip to Stephenville for midweek contests at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.
Â
Conference play will be different this season, as teams will play schools from the entire conference rather than being relegated to just divisional games.
Â
Tarleton will host WAC series vs. UTA (March 10-12), SFA (April 6-8), NM State (April 21-23), Grand Canyon (May 5-7) and Sam Houston (May 18-20).
Â
Road conference series include weekends at Utah Valley (March 24-26), UTRGV (March 31- April 2), California Baptist (April 14-16), Seattle U (April 28-30) and Abilene Christian (May 12-14).
Â
Early in the season the Texans will play 11 consecutive games at home, from March 3 to March 19.
Â
This season the Texans will be able to compete in the WAC Baseball Tournament for the first time in the Division 1 era.
Â
"The guys in our locker room know it won't be easy and that they will have to earn it every day," said Meade. "You have to stay present and focused on winning one day at a time over the course of the spring, but there is definitely some added motivation in knowing they have an opportunity to compete in the postseason for the first time at the Division 1 level."
