Tarleton hosts regular season finale on Sunday against Grand Canyon

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State will close the door on just its second season of women's soccer on Sunday against Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. at the Tarleton Soccer Complex, presented by Everything Shredded.

Prior to first kick on Sunday, senior Macie Witter will be honored in a pregame ceremony honoring her two seasons with the Texans. The Foothill Ranch, CA, native, is graduating with her master's in business administration in December and intends to pursue a career in the racing industry.

Sunday's contest will be available on ESPN+ with Kyle Crews on the call. Statistics will be provided by StatBroadcast and can be accessed by the links found on our website tarletonsports.com and twitter @tarletonwsoccer.

On Thursday, the Texans found themselves in an action-packed contest with the Lancers ultimately coming out on top, 3-1.

Mikayla Kendall tops the WAC with 121 saves, a mark that would rank fourth in the nation. She tallied 10 on Thursday against California Baptist, including a pair of spectacular back-to-back saves in the second half. Rylee Low leads the Texans offensive attack with four goals on the year, ranking tenth in the league. She is tied with Avery Harr for the team lead in points at eight. Harr is responsible for two of the last three Texan goals.

Head coach Pete Cuadrado has amassed 178 wins in his 21 seasons as a collegiate head coach with stops at North Dakota State, Wyoming and Tarleton.

Grand Canyon is headlined by the nation's active Division I goal scoring leader Gianna Gourley who has totaled 51 goals in four seasons with the Lopes. Gourley is also third among active Division I players with 122 points. This season she leads the WAC with 18 and is third in the nation. She has scored a goal in 12 of her 18 games played and has only been held scoreless in the WAC three times.

The Lopes have already clinched a spot in next week's WAC Tournament in Riverside, California. Earlier in the week, GCU drew at Abilene Christian, 1-1. Last season, the Lopes bested the Texans, 6-1, in Phoenix.

GCU's primary keeper and two-time WAC Goalie of the Week, DeAira Jackson has posted an impressive 0.94 GAA on 54 saves this season.

Chris Cissell is in his fourth season as the GCU women's soccer head coach. Cissell has consistently won in his first three seasons as a Lope, accumulating 35 wins and making four consecutive WAC Tournament appearances.

Tarleton State Women's Soccer will return next fall when the university is expected to conclude its reclassification process making the Texans eligible for NCAA postseason tournaments and rankings.
