Tarleton State Softball announces 2024 campaign

STEPHENVILLE, Texas -  Following back-to-back 30-plus win seasons and two postseason appearances, the Texans will look to keep the momentum going this spring.

"I'm excited about our 2024 schedule," said head coach Mark Cumpian. "It presents us with some challenges right out the gate during the non-conference slate. We will see six teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, along with some teams that will be much improved."

The Purple and White will take to the diamond 55 times this season, 21 of those on home turf. The Texans will compete in five tournaments this go-around with one hosted in Stephenville. Each tournament will consist of five games for Tarleton State.

"Our team has worked hard all fall," said Cumpian. "They have one goal in mind and that's to win a conference championship. I feel that this team has all of the ability to do that."

The Texans will travel to six different states throughout their season, playing 22 games outside of Texas state lines.

The Purple and White will open their season on the road with their first of five tournaments. The Texans will travel just across state lines to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they will compete in the McNeese State Tournament Feb. 9-11. The 2024 season will get underway when they face Tennessee State at Joe Miller Field.

Tarleton State will face three other opponents during the tournament in New Mexico, Lamar and host McNeese State. The Texans will play one game each with New Mexico and Lamar before rounding out the tournament with two games against the Cowgirls.

Following the road trip to Louisiana, the Texans will come home where they will once again host the Tarleton State Invitational Feb. 16-18. This will be the third straight year that the Purple and White will host a tournament at the Tarleton State Softball Complex.

The Tarleton State Invitational will consist of five teams including the host Texans. Tarleton State will face Idaho State, Mississippi Valley and Buffalo all once, while they will face off against Lafayette twice.

After a weekend home the Texans will hit the road once again as they will travel to former Lone Star Conference foe and current Southland Conference member Texas A&M Commerce Feb. 23-25. This will be the first time the Purple and White will travel back to the home of the Lions since 2019 when the Texans earned a bid to the NCAA South Central Regional Championship.

Tarleton State will see three different opponents in Commerce. They will face Nebraska-Omaha and South Dakota two times each while facing the host TAMUC Lions once.

Before continuing the tournament road trip, the Texans will give the home crowd a chance to see them in action up and close as they will host Prairie View A&M. The Purple and White will play a doubleheader on Feb 27.

To open the month of March, Tarleton State will travel south to current Big 12 and future SEC member University of Texas on March 1-3. The Texans will face four different opponents at the Red and Charline McCombs Field. They will open the Texas Tournament facing off against Hofstra before taking on host Texas.

Following the opening day of the tournament the Texans will take the field against Penn State for the first of two times. They will then face off vs. Northwestern State before closing out the weekend with a Sunday matchup against Penn State.

The Texans will catch their first plane of the season as they will make the trip to Jacksonville, Florida, on March 8-10 where they will compete in the Jacksonville Spring Break Challenge. Four different opponents will be faced in the Sunshine state at the Debbie and Fred Pruitt Field.

Tarleton State will open the Spring Break Challenge with a contest with USC Upstate. To close out the first day the Texans will take on Jacksonville. They will face Presbyterian two times on day two. Wrapping up the tournament will see the Texans matchup with Marist.

After two road tournaments the Texans will face their largest challenge of the season. Tarleton State will head north continuing the road trip where they will face the back-to-back-to-back National Champion Oklahoma. The Texans single game with Sooners will be on March 12 in Norman, Oklahoma.

The Texans will open up conference play on the road for the second straight year. The first conference matchup will take the Purple and White out west to Orem, Utah. They will get conference play underway with a doubleheader on March 15 with game three being played the following day on March 16.

To open the home portion of the conference schedule, Tarleton State will host five straight contests for the home crowd to enjoy. The home slate will get started with a single game vs UT Arlington on March 22. They will play a doubleheader of the series the next day on March 23.

The supporters of the Purple and White won't have to wait long to see the team in action as the Texans will host Abilene Christian on March 26 for a conference doubleheader.

Following the five-game homestand, the Purple and White will hit the road for a six-game road trip. They will face two conference opponents in California Baptist and Stephen F. Austin.

Texan Softball will close out the month of April with a trip to the Northwest. The Texans will travel to Seattle U for a three-game series. The Purple and White will play games one and two of the series on April 26 in doubleheader fashion. They will close out the series on April 27 with game three.

The Texans will play one final non-conference matchup of the year on the first of May. The Purple and White will head towards the coast to Beaumont, Texas, for a single game with Lamar.

After a trip down south for Tarleton State, Southern Utah will meet the Texans in Stephenville for the final conference matchup of the season. The Texan Nation faithful will have one final opportunity to see the Texans in action during their final three home games of the year. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 3 before rounding things out on May 4 with the final conference matchup for the Texans.
