ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • This is the seventh all-time meeting, with all six coming over the past two years. The series is now tied 3-3 after Tarleton won the first matchup this season in Stephenville 70-60.
  • In the first matchup, Teresa Da Silva had 21 points (5-10 3PT), six rebounds and three assists. Mayra Caicedo had 14 points and six assists. Elise Turrubiates had 12 points and nine boards.
  • UTRGV has lost two straight, four of their last five and nine of their last 11. They won their last home game, a 75-71 win vs. ACU. The Vaqueros are 6-6 at home.

QUICK HITS
  • Tarleton is still in contention to make the WAC Tournament, but they need a win Wednesday to stay alive. A win by the Texans would put them one win back of both UTRGV and Utah Valley, and two wins back of Seattle U, with two to play. The Texans would own the tiebreaker over the Vaqueros. A loss by Tarleton Wednesday knocks them out, as Utah Valley owns the tiebreaker.
  • This is Tarleton's final regular season road game in 2022-23. A win Wednesday would snap a nine-game road losing streak, the Texans' longest road skid since 2002-03 (10 games).
  • In their last game, Tarleton led by eight midway through the fourth quarter before losing by one at Sam Houston as their game-winning shots refused to fall. The Texans forced the Bearkats to shoot 32.3 percent from the field (.143 from 3PT), their opponent's worst FG% since Dec. 14.
  • Tarleton has had five players play in every game (Nyajah Mitchels, Viktoria Ivanova, Mason Jones, Jenna Dick, Tyler Jackson). Teresa Da Silva and Mayra Caicedo have started every game they've played.
  • Tarleton is currently on a season-long skid of 10 games, their longest losing streak since Dec. 19, 2002, through Jan. 25, 2003 (11 straight).
  • Over her last two games, Caicedo has recorded 10+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists in each. In her last game, she scored a career-high 18 points (7-10 FG) in her 78th career D1 contest.
  • Tarleton received all of their scoring from six players in the last game.

WHO'S HOT
  • Mayra Caicedo – Caicedo has been an assist machine, averaging 8.3 APG over her last three games, adding 11.3 PPG and 6.7 RPG. She is averaging the fourth most assists in the WAC this season at 4.6, tied-50th most in Division I. She scored a career-high 18 points in the last game, playing all 40 minutes.
  • Elise Turrubiates – In the last game, Turrubiates' second game back since missing five, the sophomore recorded her first career double-double with 12 points (6-8 FT) and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes. It was Tarleton's second double-double of the year (Teresa Da Silva on Nov. 30).
  • Emilia Axelsson – In her 43rd game with the purple and white, Axelsson scored a new career-high 11 points (4-9 FG) in 23 minutes, surpassing her previous high of seven points (twice). She has started the last 10 games after earning two starts over her first 33 career games at Tarleton.
