STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton softball suffered a 6-0 setback at the hands of North Texas on Wednesday night at the Tarleton Softball Complex.
The Mean Green (8-2), who came into the game receiving votes in the NFCA national poll, got on the scoreboard early with a five run first inning. After tacking on another in the second, they combined for six runs in the first two innings which proved too much for the Texans (9-4) to overcome.
The reigning WAC Hitter of the Week,
Katy Schaefer, went 2-for-3 (.525) on the day.
Austin Germain had a double in the game for her fourth double in the last three games, while
Brady Rowland and
Jordan Dickerson each picked up a hit.
Fresh off her perfect game in Sunday's outing,
Grace Garcia gave the Texans a shot in the arm out of the bullpen. The senior right-hander threw 6.1 innings of one-run softball with four strikeouts. She came on in relief of
Tristan Bridges, who started the game.
Tarleton will head to El Paso to compete in the UTEP Invitational. The Texans will start the weekend off on Friday with a doubleheader against CSU-Bakersfield at 10 a.m. CT and Missouri-Kansas City at 1 p.m. CT.
