STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton cruised in their return to home on Friday, sweeping both of their opponents 7-0 in their Stephenville doubleheader.
The Texans (7-3) beat Tyler Junior College (2-4) 7-0 in the first afternoon match, then promptly repeated their 7-0 result over Weatherford College (0-4) in the later match. The Texans have now won three straight and six of their last seven.
Friday marked Tarleton's first matches at home in five weeks. Tyler JC, who beat Tarleton in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, brought another formidable lineup to Stephenville. However, the Texans' firm foundation under head coach
Elianne Douglas-Miron won comfortably this time, taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets and two 6-0 blowouts in doubles.
Celia Vaudiau and
Clara Sobius started things off with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Beyza Yaniklar and Hrudaya Shah.
Elsa Boisson and
Emma Persson followed that with their own 6-0 rout of Yeva Kramarova and Zoi Spyrou at No. 2. Tyler JC did pick up a doubles win at No. 1, as Yeva Kononovych and Sydney Stone defeated
Martha Makantasi and
Elif Albayrak 6-4. This was the freshman Albayrak's debut in dual match play.
In singles, Vaudiau got the first win in her first match on Court 5 this season, beating Shah 6-0 6-3. Makantasi also played on a different court for the first time this year, featured in the No. 2 position Friday. She defeated Stone 6-2 6-4. Boisson returned to Court 3 and picked up a 6-3 6-2 win over Kramarova. Sobius, on her birthday, beat Natalia Michta 6-2 6-4 at No. 6. Albayrak earned a victory in her season debut singles match, defeating Kononovych 6-2 6-0. Persson wrapped up the sweep with a 10-point tiebreaker W, taking down Spyrou 3-6 6-3 [10-4].
In the latter match, it was more of the same for Tarleton, although it took less effort. Weatherford College had four players available on Friday, so the Texans essentially started the match ahead 2-0.
In doubles, Boisson and Persson played in the top flight and defeated Lina Brandt and Agathe Vaillant 6-2. At No. 2, Vaudiau and Sobius defeated Marija Ristanojiv and Telma Llorenzo 6-4. Makantasi and
Audrey Pacheco won by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Persson improved to 2-0 at No. 1 on the day, this time not allowing her opponent to win a single game. She is now 8-1 in singles, all at the Nos. 1-2 positions, after beating Ristanojiv 6-0 6-0. Sobius had her highest position win of the season, defeating Llorenzo at No. 4 6-1 6-0. Vaudiau returned to Court 3 and took the win over Brandt 7-5 6-2. Boisson got the final "playing" victory on Court 2, 6-1 6-4 over Vaillant. Morales (No. 5) and Pacheco (No. 6) won by default.
Tarleton has four more matches as part of their six-match homestand to start the month of March. Next up is Louisiana Tech on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. CT. The Lady Techsters handed Tarleton one of just four losses on the season last year, 4-2 in Ruston, Louisiana.
