Texans get 3rd consecutive run rule victory in win over Randall

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton baseball earned its eighth straight home victory and third consecutive run-rule victory in a 17-1 seven inning win over Randall University on Tuesday evening at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.

Tarleton (10-3) plated 17 runs on 12 hits, scoring over 15 runs for the fourth time this season and over 10 runs for the eighth time. The Texans held Randall (1-9) to four hits and a lone run scored.

Freshman Tyson Drake hit his second career home run, a grand slam, in the bottom of the third inning to break the gates open for the Tarleton offense making it an 8-0 lead. He led the Texans with four RBI.
Senior Carter Dobrinski finished with three hits, a season-high, and two RBI. Sophomore transfer Brandon Howell notched his first two hits of the season as well as finishing with two RBI.

Three other Texans, Cole Miears, Payton Pennington and Jake Escalon each contributed two RBI in the win.

Senior Isiah Campa was the starting pitcher for Tarleton, making his first start dating back to March 19 in the 2022 season when his season ended due to injury. He pitched the first inning allowing just one hit and faced only three batters, forcing a double play.

The Texans employed a staff day on the mound, with seven pitchers each throwing an inning. Piercen McElyea (W, 1-0) earned the win pitching the second inning and striking out two. Jon Cordaway, Peyton Hutson, Devon Patel and Grant Garza each had two strikeouts.

Tarleton plated six runs in the third and five runs in the sixth, using those innings to eliminate any Randall threat.

Tarleton will open Western Athletic Conference play on Friday as the UT Arlington Mavericks come to town for a three-game series. First pitch Friday is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and will be a 'Purple Out' with free rally towels being given out.
