STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton fell 11-2 in the series finale to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.
SFA (16-14, 10-5 WAC) completed the series sweep of the Texans (14-15, 1-9 WAC) and handed Tarleton its ninth straight loss.
The Lumberjacks got to Tarleton starting pitcher
Peyton Hutson (L, 0-1) early. They scored twice on three hits in the first inning and brought home five more on three hits and an error in the second, taking a 7-0 lead. Hutson went 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out one and walked two.
Tarleton brought home its first two runs in the fourth inning, cutting the Lumberjack lead to 7-2.
Cris Enriquez started the inning with a leadoff double to right center field.
Alec Williams singled him in with a shot through the left side two batters later for his fourth hit of the series.
Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo hit Williams in with an RBI single to center field for the second run.
SFA immediately re-upped its lead, scoring four more in the fifth inning to make it 11-2.
The Texans scored five runs in the eighth as they tried to claw their way back in.
Mason Crews laced an RBI single to left field to score
Jack Wagner who previously walked. Williams then scored Enriquez on a fielder's choice to the second baseman, making it 11-4.
Jordan Andrade delivered with his first hit of the game, a two-run double to left center scoring Choy Foo and Williams.
Mason Hammonds followed that up with a single to center field that scored Andrade from second to make it 11-7 SFA.
Williams and
Jordan Andrade paced Tarleton with two RBI.
Cris Enriquez had three hits and two runs scored.
Trace Morrison added his second multi-hit game of the series, finishing with two hits while Choy Foo added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Devon Patel and
Matt Haley pitched well out of the bullpen late for Tarleton. They combined to throw 4.2 shutout innings to hold SFA off the board for the final four frames. Patel tossed 2.2 innings and allowed no runs on two hits, striking out three and walking none. Haley allowed no runs on two hits and had two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
SFA's Conner Woods (W, 1-2) picked up the win as he fired 6.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked two.
Tarleton will hit the road, traveling to the west coast for a Wednesday game at UC Riverside with first pitch set for 8:30 p.m. CT. They will then stay in Riverside, California, for a weekend WAC series at California Baptist.
