STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton baseball dropped its final midweek contest of the season, 4-2, to the Baylor Bears at the Tarleton Baseball Complex on Tuesday evening.
The Texans (24-25) were held scoreless for the first seven innings before breaking through in the eighth with two runs. Baylor (17-35) starting pitcher Jared Matheson (W, 1-1) tossed 7.0 shutout innings on his way to earning the win. He struck out five and walked one, allowing two hits.
Baylor scored all four of its runs in the first inning with Texan starting pitcher
Isiah Campa (L, 1-2) on the mound. The Bears scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded.
The game would ultimately be decided in the next at bat. Gavin Brzozowski hit a 3-run home run that appeared to be foul down the right field line. The call went in favor of the Bears to the dismay of the Texan fans as Baylor built a 4-0 in the first.
The Texan relievers pitched a shutout for the final 8.0 frames, with five different pitchers combining to hold Baylor off the board.
Grant Garza threw 2.1 innings with a strikeout,
Matt Haley tossed 2.0 innings with a strikeout,
Piercen McElyea and
Zach Poe each threw one inning, with McElyea striking out three batters.
Zane Badmaev threw the final 2.0 innings, striking out two and allowing a lone hit.

Cole Miears.
Kooper Shook scored in the next bat as
Trace Morrison hit into a double play, but Tarleton made it 4-2.
The Texans will close the season with Sam Houston coming to Stephenville this weekend for a Thursday-Saturday series. Saturday will be senior day as the Texan seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
