Tarleton State opens September against Grambling and Lamar

The Texans will close their three-match homestand next Friday against TAMU-Corpus Christi

    STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State women's soccer opens its second and final three-match homestand on Friday morning with an 11 a.m. date against Grambling at the Tarleton Soccer Complex. The Texans will round out the weekend with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. against Lamar.
 
    Friday morning will feature a loud and full crowd, as Tarleton State host Education Day. Several schools have reserved their spot to bring students for a gameday experience. Elementary students will partake in fun pregame activities and will enjoy a pizza lunch. Pizza will be provided by CiCi's Pizza and waters and other supplies are provided by Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic.
 
    Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Crews on the call. Stats will be provided by StatBroadcast.
 
    Last week, Tarleton State was 1-1 with a 3-0 win over Nicholls on Friday night and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Houston on Sunday morning. Jenaya Brown notched the first three-point effort of the season on Friday night. Jaycie Bass scored her first collegiate goal in the 86th minute of Friday's contest.
 
    Mikayla Kendall made the headlines once again this week, earning the WAC Top Play of the Week. At the end of the first half after a foul in the box, Nicholls was granted a penalty kick for the opportunity to tie the game at one. Kendall stood her ground and made a diving save to preserve the Texan shutout.
 
    Brown leads the Texan scoring attack with five points from two goals and an assist. Adriana Alonso-Gomez has been credited with two assists while one of her corner kicks has originated a goal in three of the four contests this season. Avery Harr leads the team with eight shots all on goal and has found the back of the net on one occasion.
 
    Head coach Pete Cuadrado is in his 21st season as a collegiate head coach. Tarleton State is his third program, preceded by Wyoming and North Dakota State. He has accumulated 176 wins in his three stops and has been named coach of the year twice.
 
    Grambling has played five games this season and are .500 with two wins and a tie. Four different players have each scored a goal for the Tigers this season. Madison Covey-Taylor has been the primary goalkeeper with four starts between the posts. She has posted a 0.86 GAA with a win and six saves.
 
    Friday will be the first meeting between the two schools in program history.
 
    Head coach Justin Wagar is in his fifth season at the helm of the Tigers' program. he led the Tigers to their fifth consecutive conference championship game in six years in 2022.
 
    The 2022 Southland conference champions, the Lamar Cardinals enter the  1-1-1, with a 1-0 win at
Officially, not a single player has been credited with a goal this season. The team's only goal of the year was a Bearkats' own-goal. In goal, graduate student Nicole Panis has allowed just one goal for a 0.33 GAA with six saves and a pair of shutouts.
 
    Last season, Lamar bested the Texans, 5-1 in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals lead the series, 1-0.
 
    Head coach Nathan Kogut is in his second season with the Cardinals. He went 15-2-2 last year with conference titles in the regular season and in the Southland tournament.
 
    Next week, the Texans will close its three-game homestand with a Friday night match-up against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. Tarleton State will finish the weekend on the road at Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Sunday at 1 p.m.
