FORT WORTH, Texas- Tarleton State laced them up for the first time this season at the John McKenzie Invitational on Friday.
 
The Texans competed against some tough competition in Texas A&M, host TCU and WAC foes UT Arlington and Abilene Christian.
 
"I'm very proud of the ones who competed today," said coach Chase Rathke. "We had people step up for others who were out and made an impact in a tough race. We race again in two weeks at Texas A&M and hoping to get a few more key individuals back in action."
 
The women's team took to the starting line first this morning. The Texans were headed by junior 
Sage Lancaster notching her spot in the top-20 with a finish in 17th with a time of 18:42.30.
 
Behind Lancaster was a trio of juniors in 
Kailey Sykora, 
Georgina Balderas, and 
Jordan Jones. Alongside the trio was freshman Emily Teal and senior 
Aimee Landers-Wilburn.
 
Sykora took 25th with a time of 18:59.90. Coming in five spots later was Balderas in 30th with a time of 19:06.70. Freshman Teal took 46th with a time of 20:16.10.
 
Rounding out the race for the Texans was Landers-Wilburn and Jones. Landers-Wilburn came in 51st with a time of 22:06.20. Coming in on her heels was Jones in 52nd with a time of 22:09.50.
 
On the men's side the Purple and White was led by freshman Kellen Frickel, placing ninth with a time of 15:10.30. Following behind Frickel was senior 
Angel Contreras and freshman Diego Flores placing 15th (15:27.80) and 22nd (15:39.00), respectively.
 
Rounding it out on the men's side was sophomore 
Ricky Tolentino and freshman Christopher Moreno. Tolentino placed 34th with a time of 16:02.70 and Moreno came in 38th with a time of 16:11.90.
 
The Texans will be off for two weeks before heading to College Station, Texas, on Sept. 15. Tarleton State will compete in the Texas A&M Invitational hosted at Watts Cross Country Course.
