TULSA, Okla. —
Mikayla Kendall broke her program record with 19 saves in Tarleton State's 4-0 loss at Oral Roberts on Thursday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles (3-3-3) earned their first victory in the all-time series against the Texans (2-5-2).
For the third time this season, Kendall broke her own single-game saves record. Kendall broke out for 19 saves against the Golden Eagles, the most by any WAC goalkeeper this season.
Oral Roberts came out of the gate hot, scoring in the first 39 seconds of the match.
After a pair of shots by the Golden Eagles, Riley Baldwin made the third shot of the sequence count notching the first goal of the game for ORU. Samantha Guzman and Kennedy Langebartels were credited with the assists after their first two shots were saved by Kendall.
In the 23
rd minute, the Golden Eagles tacked on their second goal of the contest. Ariana Fresquez took a corner from the right of the goal and connected with Gabrielle Abbey who headed in for her third goal of the season.
The Tarleton defense held ORU the final 20 minutes of the half for to head into the half trailing, 2-0.
Seven minutes into the second half, Guzman corralled a loose ball before finding the back of the net to put ORU ahead, 3-0. Jordyn Blackburn tallied the assist getting the ball to Guzman.'
The Texans threatened just a few minutes later with a shot by
Macy Hellwig.
Victoria Cameron sent a cross towards the goalkeeper for a potential change, but the ORU keeper pounced on the ball to end the threat.
With less than a minute remaining, ORU added a fourth goal. Kennedy Langebartels gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead. Gabrielle Abbey and Haley Nichols tallied helpers on the goal.
Tarleton State returns home to the Tarleton Soccer Complex on Saturday night for its final non-conference tilt of the season against Prairie View A&M. On an action-packed day in Tarleton sports, soccer is the nightcap at 7 p.m.
