Women’s Soccer closes three-game road trip at Abilene Christian on Sunday

    STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Women's Soccer heads to Abilene for a 5 p.m. bout on Sunday against Abilene Christian at Elmer Gray Stadium.

    The Texans enter the second week of WAC play with a single match after opening on a draw at Stephen F. Austin and its first victory at UTRGV. Mila Bettinelli netted her third goal of the season in the 86th minute against the Lumberjacks to earn the Texans a point in the standings with a 1-1 tie. Two days later, Rylee Low notched her team-leading fourth goal on a free kick in the 77th minute against UTRGV which held for a 1-0 victory.
 
    Low's four goals in the last seven contests leads the Texans scoring attack. Tarleton State's leading goal scorer and point total (8). She ranks fourth in WAC in total goals and sixth in goals per game (.33).
 
    Mikayla Kendall leads the WAC in saves with 77 and averages a league-best 7.00 saves per game. She is also second in save percentage at .811. The Orange, CA native earned her first shutout of WAC play against UTRGV collecting one save on the only shot she faced. She has two solo shutouts tied for third in the WAC, as well as a pair of combined shutouts with Emma Barnes this season.
 
    Bettinelli ranks in the top 10 in three career statistical categories (goals, points per game, and goals per game) among active players in the WAC.
         
    As a unit, Tarleton ranks in the top five in goals (17) and goals per game (1.42).  The Texans also rank second in fewest fouls called per game (7.42).
 
    Avery Harr and Low remain as the only Texans to have started in all 30 games in program history.
 
    Head coach Pete Cuadrado has totaled 178 wins in his 21 seasons of coaching across North Dakota State, Wyoming and Tarleton State.
 
    The Abilene Christian Wildcats will also play one single game in the second week of WAC play. Last Week, Abilene Christian opened their conference slate in Edinburg against UTRGV and fell, 1-0, on Thursday. On Sunday, the Wildcats knocked off SFA, 2-0, for their first conference win of the season. Last season the two programs met for the first time, resulting in a 1-1 draw in Stephenville.
 
    Chayse Thorn leads the Wildcats offensive attack and is fifth in the nation scoring 11 goals this season. She is tied for 1st in the WAC in goals and points and leads the conference in points and goals per game.
 
    Goalkeeper Savanna Alba earned the past two starts in goal for the Wildcats to open WAC play. The redshirt sophomore seemingly has taken the starting job posting 13 saves with a 0.67 GAA in six games this season with three starts.
 
    Head coach Stephen Salas begins his first season as the second-ever coach in program history. Salas is a first-year head coach in his second stint with the Wildcats after spending six seasons as an associate head coach from 2013-18. Salas was most recently at Hardin-Simmons as an associate head coach.
 
    Tarleton State will finally return home next week on Thursday, Oct. 5. The Texans will host Utah Valley at 7 p.m. on "Soctoberfest", an extravagant celebration featuring food trucks, mini golf and a mug giveaway to early arriving fans.
