Texans head to Norman for Crimson Storm Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. – Tarleton State Track and Field is set to compete in the Crimson Storm Invitational on Saturday. It will mark the first meet of the new year for the Purple and White.

The meet will be hosted by Southern Nazarene on Oklahoma's campus in Norman.

The Texans opened their indoor season back on Dec. 8 at the Boo Rogers Multi Invitational and the Crimson and Gold Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas.

"I am very anxious for both teams to compete this weekend at OU," said interim head coach Chase Rathke. "This should be a great meet to break off the rust and get us prepared for some of the bigger meets in the upcoming weeks. These athletes have put in a lot of work since September, and I am excited to go see them compete against some good competition. It should be a lot of fun."

In the first indoor meet of the season, Angel Gomez broke the school record for the men's indoor 5000m race for the Texans. Gomez ran a 14:48.49 setting the new mark to beat.

The Texans also set school records in multiple other events. Angel Contreras locked up the No. 2 spot overall in school history for the men's 5000m race. Contreras earned his place with a time of 14:56.09.

Taylor McFarland (women's indoor 400m, women's indoor 60m hurdles), Rese Schoonover (women's indoor 60m hurdles) and Caterrin Cox (men's indoor 60m hurdles) all moved up to the No. 2 overall spot in school history for their respective race.

The meet will be a one-day event with field events getting underway at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 12 p.m.

The Crimson Storm Invitational will be hosted at the Mosier Indoor Athletic Facility (395 E Lindsey St.) in Norman, Oklahoma. Admission is $5 ($3 for K-12 and Seniors over 65) and doors will open at 9:30 a.m.
