STEPHENVILLE, Texas – For the second time in three weeks, a Tarleton State Women's Basketball student-athlete swept the Western Athletic Conference awards.
The WAC announced on Tuesday that Texan true freshman center
Faith Acker was named both the WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the WAC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week for games played Dec. 25-31.
Acker recorded a monster double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds in Tarleton's lone game of the week, a 52-40 win at Texas Southern.
WAC-wise, Acker had the most points scored in a game in the week and added the second most rebounds by a WAC player in the week, both in the same game. She was the only player in the conference to post a 20-10 game.
Acker is the first Texan freshman to achieve a double-double since Ikpeaku Iwobi notched two in her true freshman season of 2013-14, plus is the first Texan freshman to post a 20-10 game in at least the last 10 years. She is the third Texan in their D1 era to post a 20-10 game (
Teresa Da Silva in 2022-23, Marissa Escamilla in 2020-21), is the first Texan to finish with at least 23 points and 12 rebounds since Mackenzie Hailey (March 9, 2019, at Angelo State), and is just the second Texan freshman in their D1 era to score 20 points in a game (Iyana Dorsey twice in 2020-21).
Acker now leads the team in scoring (12.3 PPG), rebounding (7.3 RPG) and blocks (1.3 BPG). She achieved her first double-double in her seventh career game.
Acker joins forward
