Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Soccer concluded its WAC road slate with a 1-0 loss against Seattle U at Championship Field.
The Texans (7-6-3 overall, 1-3-0 WAC) fell victim to a Redhawks (8-2-4, 3-0-1) goal in the final six minutes of the match. The Texans had an unblemished sheet for the first 84 minutes of play.
Goalkeeper
Mikayla Kendall notched nine saves increasing her WAC-high to 88 total saves on the season.
Nicole Fels fired the first shot of the day for the Texans. She found the ball near the top of the box and launched a line shot at the corner of the net, where the Redhawk keeper made the snag in the sixth minute.
In the 23
rd minute, the Texans had one of their best scoring chances early on.
Kyra Goudzwaard brought the ball down the bench side of the field. She sent a cross through the box to the opposite post where
Reegan Wagg was waiting, but a Seattle U defender impeded the pass. The Texan corner was headed out on the ensuing play, ending the chance.
Less than seven minutes later,
Lauren Grissom found a loose ball at the top of the box. She directed through traffic towards the goal where a diving Redhawk keeper made the save.
Through the second half of the match, it was back and forth between the Texans and the Redhawks.
In the 84
th minute, a Redhawks forward dribbled the ball to the box, leading to a header and a Texan save, but could not stop forward Kailee Wilson from sending the ball to the corner of the net for the first goal of the match.
Tarleton State will head back to Stephenville to close out the final three contests of the WAC regular season. The Texans will host Utah Tech on Thursday night for Military Appreciation Night with fans receiving free scarves with kick slated for 7 p.m. The Texans will close the weekend with a Sunday matchup against Southern Utah at 1 p.m. on the second annual Soctoberfest. Fans will be able to ride a mechanical bull, receive a free Soctoberfest pint glass and Auntie Anne's pretzels.
