STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Cross Country will close out the regular season with its fourth-straight appearance at the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M at the Watts Cross Country Course.
Men
The men's squad finished in 14
th, ahead of five top-15 ranked south central region squads. Tarleton finished ahead of South Central Region ranked Houston (#7), Rice (#9), Lamar (#10), UT Arlington (#12), Sam Houston (#14).
For the first time this season,
Angel Contreras led the men's pack. Contreras crossed in 51
st place, in 23:44.5.
Angel Gomez was the next Texan to cross, notching 54
th place in 23:46.2.
Jace Poole finished in 79
th place in 23:58.8, followed by
Toby Eaton in 88
th place in 24:04.8.
Kellen Frickel rounded out the scoring Texans crossing in 24:48.9.
Texas tech took home the team title posting 62 points and registering the top two overall finishers. Boise State and Texas A&M rounded out the podium with 98 and 153 points, respectively.
On the individual side, Texas Tech's Solomon Kipchoge and Ernest Cheruyiot in 22:01.4 and 22:20.4. Oklahoma City's Evert Silva rounded out the top three finishing five seconds behind.
Women
In a loaded competition, the women's squad competed against 12 of the South Central region top 15 ranked programs.
Sage Lancaster led the Texans crossing in 21:41.4 to earn 162
nd place. Freshman
Kaitlyn Gale finished five seconds behind in 21:46.1 in 174
th place. The scoring five was rounded out by
Ella Smart (22:57.1),
Georgina Balderas (23:22.1) and
Kyla Zalit (24:06.1).
Gonzaga notched the team crown with 74 points. Boise State earned silver with 133 points and Georgia Tech earned bronze with 143 points.
Texas Tech's Juliet Cherubet won the individual crown finishing ahead more than 20 seconds of second place in 18:37.0. Oklahoma's Leah Jeruto and Arizona State's Judy Chepkoech rounded out the podium finishers.
Tarleton State will enjoy a two week break before lacing up at the WAC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 in Orem, Utah. The race will be hosted by Utah Valley at Lakeside Park.
