Tarleton State Women's Basketball faces Northwestern St. in Saturday showdown

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball continues its homestand at Wisdom Gym Saturday at 1 p.m. against Northwestern State. 

Fans are encouraged to come to Wisdom Gym to support Tarleton State Women's Basketball before the Texans' football game against Abilene Christian. All ticket holders to Saturday's football game receive free admission to Tarleton State Women's Basketball's 1 p.m. contest. 

Saturday is also the Texans' canned food drive sponsored by Surepoint Emergency Center. Fans who bring in a canned food item will receive one free general admission ticket for Saturday's women's basketball game. All food will be donated to St. Luke's Pantry. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 10:30 a.m. and a 30-minute postgame show following the game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State will play Northwestern State for the fourth time in program history on Saturday.
  • The Texans look to avenge a 51-59 loss in Natchitoches, Louisiana, last season. 
  • Tarleton State and Northwestern State were tied 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter in last year's game. The Lady Demons pulled away in the fourth quarter and outscored the Texans 19-11 in the final 10 minutes.

TERRIFIC TURRUBIATES 
  • Senior forward Elise Turrubiates grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards, against New Orleans (11/12).  
  • It was her first game with at least 10 boards since Feb. 18, 2023 (at Sam Houston).
  • Turrubiates also had a career-high five steals against New Orleans (11/12), the third game of her career with at least five or more steals.
  • She is the second Tarleton State player in the Division I Era to have at least three games with five or more steals.

AWESOME ACKER
  • Sophomore center Faith Acker matched a career-high four blocks against New Orleans (11/12) to go with a season-high 10 points and seven rebounds. 
  • She has blocked four shots in three different games during her Tarleton State career.
  • She currently has the second-most games in the Division I Era with at least four blocks (3).
  • Acker also leads the Western Athletic Conference in blocks and blocks per game. 

FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. 
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games. The gym has also been the home of the winningest basketball coach in school history since 1988.
  • Also housing the women's volleyball gym, indoor turf training facility, weight room, athletic training facility, athletics coaching offices, Hall of Fame, trophy cases housing years of Tarleton's athletic kinesiology department.
