Tarleton State Softball announces 2025 campaign, program-record 30 home contests

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Following back-to-back WAC Tournament berths, the Texans are set to host a program-record 30 home contests in 2025, announced head coach Mark Cumpian on Tuesday.

This marks just the third time in program history the Texans have 56-plus games slated for the regular season. The entire 2025 schedule can be found here.

Tarleton State Softball season tickets are now available at $80 for general admission or $120 for reserved. Tickets can be purchased here.

Tarleton State is set to host three home tournaments for the first time in program history, opening the season with 16 straight home contests. The Purple and White will play host to 11 different teams spanning eight conferences.

After making the trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to open the season last year, the Cowgirls of McNeese State will make the return trip to the Cowboy Capital of the World this season for the Texan Classic. Tarleton State and McNeese will go head-to-head on Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. at the Tarleton Softball Complex.

The Cowgirls fell just short of a Southland Conference Championship appearance after rallying in the bottom of the seventh scoring four runs but ultimately falling to Incarnate Word, 8-7. This marked their third straight season with 40-plus wins. Just a year prior in 2023, the squad from the bayou won 47 contests with a chance to advance to the super regionals. After upsetting No. 7 Washington 1-0 in a win or go home matchup, the Cowgirls had a prime opportunity to advance to supers as they went into the top of the seventh up 6-0. The Huskies scored seven straight in the top and would take the 7-6 win advancing on to the supers.

Following opening night on Thursday, the Texans will once again play just a single game on Friday, Feb. 7 as they host Bucknell at 5:45 p.m. The next day, Feb. 8, the Purple and White will take on Marist at 2:30 p.m. before their first of two matchups with Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. Tarleton State will close things out on Sunday, Feb. 9 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 12:15 p.m.

The Texans will have just three days before returning to action at the Tarleton State Softball Complex when they host their second of three regular season tournaments, the annual Whataburger Invitational. This marks the fourth straight year the Purple and White will host the invitational.

The squad from Stephenville will open the weekend with a doubleheader when they host Southland Conference member Houston Christian for two games on Thursday, Feb. 13. The two will face off at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Following opening action on Thursday, The Texans will welcome the Governors of Austin Peay for a matchup at 6 p.m. on Feb 14.

Day three of the Whataburger Invitational will bring the Summit League runner-up to town in South Dakota State. The Texans and Jackrabbits are set for the night cap with first pitch coming at 6 p.m. on Feb. 15. Last season, the squad from the lower Dakota fell short dropping two games to the back-to-back Summit League Champion, Nebraska-Omaha. The Mavericks from Omaha forced the "if-necessary" game after defeating the Jackrabbits 5-2 followed by the 7-0 shutout win in the winner-take-all contest.

The Texans will welcome the Akron Zips back to town for the first time since their initial trip when they were part of the 2023 Whataburger Invitational. They are set for two games on Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The 2023 matchup marked the first ever meeting between the two programs with the Texans coming out on top. The Purple and White led 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh before the Zips scored two in the top to tie it up 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, current senior Austin Germain doubled to left scoring Makenzie Peterson walking off the Akron squad.

The third and final home regular season tournament, the Tarleton Invitational, will feature three different teams in North Dakota, Texas Southern and New Mexico. Action will get underway on Feb. 20 when Tarleton State goes face-to-face with North Dakota at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The following day, Feb. 21 the Texans will play the Tigers of Texas Southern for the first of two times during the Tarleton Invitational at 4 p.m.

The final two days of the Tarleton Invitational will see the Texans play just a single game each day. On Feb. 22, the Purple and White will go head-to-head with the Lobos of New Mexico at 4 p.m. The final day will feature the Texans and Tigers once again in a matinee matchup at 12:30 p.m.

After starting out the season with 16 straight home games, the Texans will hit the road for the first time as they travel to Houston for a single game with the Cougars. The contest is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Cougar Stadium on Feb. 25. Last time the Texans and Cougars faced off, the Houston squad took the three-game series 2-1 in Stephenville. The Purple and White did treat Texan Nation to a 9-1 win over the Cougars in five innings in game two of the series. The single game affair will mark the Texans first trip to Cougar land since February of 2021.

With the Houston game behind them, Tarleton State will head east to the boot for the Best on the Bayou hosted by Louisiana Monroe. The fourth and final regular season tournament for the Texans will feature four teams including the Purple and White.

The Texans will get straight to work wasting no time getting action started at 11 a.m. when Tarleton State takes on Memphis. Later that afternoon, the Stephenville squad will go head-to-head with the host, Louisiana Monroe at 4 p.m.

Tarleton State will start off the month of March with day two of the Best on the Bayou March 1. The second day will feature Memphis at 10 a.m. followed by Southeast Missouri at 12:30 p.m. The Texans final regular season tournament game will come the following morning, March 2, as the Purple and White will take on Southeast Missouri once again an hour earlier this time at 11:30 a.m.

Last season, the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri knocked off the No. 1 team in the Ohio Valley Conference, Eastern Illinois in back-to-back games to win the conference and punch their ticket to the 2024 NCAA postseason. The Redhawks made the trip to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Regional.

The Texans road trip will continue the following weekend as Tarleton State will head to Cedar City to open up 2025 WAC Conference play. The Purple and White currently hold a 2-1 all-time record over the Thunderbirds thanks to arguably the biggest series of the season for the Texans in 2024. The three-game series is set for March 7-8. A double header will open conference play for the two teams on the 7th at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Game three is set for the following day with first pitch coming at 1:30 p.m.

Last season, Tarleton State was down 7-4 entering the top of the seventh in the final game of the series, a win or go home game for the Texans. Hayden Fox reached on a walk for then senior Kelci Hill to double to left center to make it a three-run contest. Will Hill on the base paths, senior Kayla Wallace didn't hold back swinging first pitch taking the Thunderbirds to deep right to tie things up 7-7 with two outs.

After a pitching change for the squad from Cedar City, Tristyn Trull found herself in a 3-2 count putting the Texans down to their final strike of their season. Trull rocketed one down the left field line just inside the foul pole to walk-off the Thunderbirds 8-7 and punch their second straight WAC Tournament ticket in as many years as eligible.

With their first conference series behind them, the Texans will head back to the Lone Star State as they will head to Denton, Texas for a single game affair with North Texas. The game is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

Following a 19 stretch between home games, Tarleton State will return to the friendly confines of the Tarleton State Softball Complex for their first home conference series of the season featuring the Mavericks of UT-Arlington. The three-game series is set to begin on March 14 with a single game at 6:30 p.m. The following day, March 15, the two teams will face off twice in doubleheader fashion at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Next up will be a bus trip south to Prairie View A&M in what will be a home and home matchup this season. This will mark the Texans first trip to Panthers' territory since 2021 when Tarleton State swept Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader 11-3 (6) and 11-2.

The Purple and White will then take a flight out west for a three-game series with Grand Canyon. The Texans and Lopes will go head-to-head March 21-22. Action will get underway with a doubleheader on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

With the trip to the reigning WAC Champions complete, Tarleton State will return home for three games with Seattle U. The first two games are scheduled for March 28 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The series finale is set for the following day, March 29 at 11 a.m.
