Tarleton State Women’s Basketball falls at Arizona Thursday

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tarleton State Women's Basketball fell at Arizona 62-39 at the McKale Center on Thursday night. 

Senior guard Arieona Rosborough scored a season-high 21 points and snagged a season-high nine rebounds on Thursday, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor. Junior guard Karyn Sanford knocked down three 3-pointers en route to nine points. 

Rosborough scored the first bucket for Tarleton State after Arizona took the early lead, but the Wildcats scored nine straight points to go ahead by double-digits. A layup by senior forward Alani Fluker and 3-pointers from Rosborough and Sanford allowed Tarleton State to cut the first quarter deficit 18-10. 

After senior guard Jakoriah Long sank a free throw following a technical foul, Rosborough sank another jumper to make it a seven-point game. Arizona, however, used a 10-0 scoring run to stretch its lead out to 17 with under two minutes to play in the first half. The Wildcats scored a layup and sank a free throw to make it a 33-17 lead at halftime. 

Following a back-and-forth battle to start the third quarter, Sanford sank another 3-pointer to cut the deficit down to 13 points with just over two minutes to play. Arizona got hot once again, stretching the lead 48-29 thanks to a quick 6-0 run. Rosborough hit a jumper with 35 seconds left to make it a 48-31 game heading into the final period. 

Rosborough scored quickly again, but Arizona answered with eight straight points to open the fourth quarter and move ahead 56-33. Arizona finished the fourth quarter shooting 43 percent to seal the win in Tucson. 

Tarleton State comes back to Stephenville for a pair of home games at Wisdom Gym next week. The Texans' home opener will be Tuesday against New Orleans at 11 a.m. in Stephenville in the first Education Day of the season.
