Tarleton Women's Basketball faces Texas Southern in final non-conference game Sunday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas  – Tarleton Women's Basketball plays its final non-conference game of the season and final contest of the 2024 calendar year Sunday against Texas Southern at 2 p.m. at Wisdom Gym. 

The Texans are offering "Holideals" for fans for both the women's and men's games on Sunday. 
 
For the Tarleton Women's Basketball and Men's Basketball doubleheader at Wisdom Gym on Saturday, fans can purchase a $10 ticket that grants entry to both games. So, fans need just a single $10 ticket to watch the women's basketball team take on Texas Southern at 2 p.m., and the men's basketball game featuring Tarleton State and Florida A&M at 4 p.m.
 
Fans can purchase either a ticket for the women's basketball game or the men's basketball game, which will grant entry to both games on Saturday. Tickets are available at www.tarletonsports.com/tickets.


The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton and Texas Southern meet for the second time in program history. Tarleton looks to end non-conference play with its fourth straight win.
  • Faith Acker tallied 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting and 12 rebounds to secure her first career double-double in last year's meeting.
  • Texas Southern's 40 points in last year's game were the fewest by a D1 Tarleton opponent in 2023-24. 
GREAT ON THE GLASS
  • Grabbing 59 rebounds to set a new Division I Era program record, Tarleton defeated St. Mary's (TX) 64-31 on December 21.
  • Tarleton was just one rebound shy of its first 60-rebound game since 2014.
  • The Texans lead the WAC in rebounding margin, outrebounding its opponents by over seven boards per game. They are currently in the top 50 in the nation in that category.
  • Tarleton has outrebounded its opponents eight times this season, winning seven of those contests.
  • Tarleton has had four different players have at least 10 rebounds in a game this season. 
FANTASTIC FREEBIES
  • Tarleton has made great use of its opportunities from the charity strike this season, hitting 76% of their free throws as a team. The Texans are in the top 40 in the nation in free throw percentage and lead the WAC in that category. 
  • ​​​​​​Tarleton made a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line against St. Mary's (TX). It is the first time in the Division I Era Tarleton has shot 100% from the charity strike (min. 10 attempts). It is the first time since Jan. 4, 2018 the Texans were perfect from the free throw line in at least 10 attempts (14-of-14, vs. Angelo State).
  • The Texans had three straight games between Nov. 26-30 where they have shot at least 81% from the free throw line. Tarleton went 2-1 during those games and made 39-of-45 free throws for 86.6%. 
  • Tarleton shot 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the third quarter for 83.3% against Nicholls (11/30). They went on to go 17-for-19 from the charity strike, shooting a season-high 89.5%. It was the first time since Jan. 11-19, 2023 the Texans have had three consecutive games shooting at least 81% from the free throw line. 
  • Tarleton made a season-high 27 free throws against Texas State (12/4) and had 22 made free throws against New Mexico State (12/16). 
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. The Texans are currently 5-1 on its home floor. 
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has became home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.
  • Also housing the women's volleyball gym, indoor turf training facility, weight room, athletic training facility, athletics coaching offices, Hall of Fame, trophy cases hosuing years of Tarleton's athletic kinesiology department.
