RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Tarleton State had a decent day from outside the arc, but it was no match for California Baptist's clip from distance, as the Lancers drained 20 three-pointers to take down the Texans 97-64 on Saturday afternoon in Riverside, California.
The Texans (7-18, 4-12 WAC) lost their fourth straight game despite making 10 threes, a tied-season high mark, which came against the same Lancers on Jan. 11. CBU (22-3, 14-2 WAC) made 20-of-50 (.400), their tied-most three-point makes in a game in their NCAA Division I era, and their outright D1 record for three-point attempts in a game. Their 20 three-point makes are the tied-third most in a single-game by any team in the country this season, and the 50 three-point attempts are the tied-second most.
Tarleton State was paced by
Andjela Bigovic's 13 points off the bench, her fifth double-digit scoring game of the year. She also secured six rebounds.
Tyler Jackson poured in 11 points,
Elise Turrubiates tallied nine points and six rebounds,
Miannah Little recorded nine points, five boards and three assists,
Faith Acker totaled eight points and eight rebounds, and
Jakoriah Long finished with seven points and seven assists.
CBU shot 31-of-70 (.443) overall to Tarleton's 23-of-62 (.371) clip. They got to the stripe 10 more times (15-of-18 to 8-of-8), outrebounded the Texans 43-35 and forced double the amount of takeaways (18-9).
The Texans and Lancers had a tight opening frame, deadlocked at 18-18 at the end. Tarleton opened with the game's first five points, then CBU went on a 10-2 run to take the lead. The teams went back-and-forth from there to enter the second quarter tied up.
In the second with the score 24-23 CBU, the Lancers went on an 8-0 run, which turned into a 17-4 run to take a 14-point lead with 3:50 to play. CBU led by 15 at the break 49-34, thanks to eight three-pointers (8-16) in the quarter. The Lancers had nine field goal makes in the frame, just one inside the arc.
California Baptist controlled the second half, leading by as many as 35 points in the fourth before winning by 33.
CBU had four players scored 18 or more. Chloe Webb had a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, to go with three rebounds and three assists. Kinsley Barrington poured in 19 points (5-6 FG, 3-4 3PT, 6-6 FT), adding seven rebounds. Nae Nae Calhoun had 18 points (6-12 FG, 5-9 3PT), six assists and three boards. Nhug Bosch Duran led the bench with 18 points (6-10 3PT), adding three rebounds.
The Texans will return to Stephenville for their final two home games of the season. First up is a battle against Utah Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.
