Texans begin 3-match week against North Texas at home Tuesday afternoon

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis has a packed week ahead, and it will start with their final non-conference opponent of the season on Tuesday.

The Texans (9-1) will host North Texas (8-8) in Stephenville on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to begin a three-match week. Tuesday also marks the end of a three-match homestand for the Purple and White.

For the Texans, they are rolling in the 2024 spring campaign, still perfect at home (5-0) and are fresh off of beating UTSA last week, a Roadrunners team that had recently been ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITF) NCAA Division I Women's Rankings. The Texans are atop the Western Athletic Conference in winning percentage (.900) and have the fewest amount of losses (one).

When the match begins Tuesday, it will signify a full calendar year since Tarleton last lost in Stephenville, which was March 19, 2023.

For the Mean Green, they've sputtered as of late, dropping three straight matches, albeit to tough opponents at UT Arlington, against No. 69 Liberty and against Wichita State. They also faced UTSA a week before Tarleton did, and beat them 4-1. The Texans will be UNT's third WAC opponent of the year. They fell 4-1 at UTA on March 6 and lost 4-0 vs. Grand Canyon on Feb. 24.

Tarleton is a combined 43-17 (.717) across singles action this year and 24-6 (.800) in doubles matches. Noelia Lorca leads the group in singles with a spotless 10-0 record, with Martha Makantasi just behind her at 9-1. In doubles, Lorca and Emma Persson are 7-0 together, and Tarleton's top pair of Makantasi and Burger are 9-1.

The Mean Green are a combined 38-39 (.494) in singles action and 26-15 (.634) in doubles play. UNT has winning records on all courts except for No. 1, where they are a combined 4-10.

After Tuesday, Tarleton will play two road matches to close out the week, one of them very close to Stephenville that fans can easily travel to. The Texans will head to UTRGV for a Friday match at 10 a.m., followed by a match at UT Arlington on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Admission is free Tuesday, and for all Tarleton home matches this season. For those unable to attend in-person, there will be live streaming found here, while live scoring can be found here.
