Texan Baseball hangs tough with nation’s top ranked team Texas A&M before falling in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Tarleton State Baseball put up a good fight against the No.1 ranked team in the nation Texas A&M, but a trio of home runs from the Maroon and White outdid the Texans' offensive efforts.
 
Tarleton State (25-20, 15-9 WAC) led No. 1 Texas A&M (39-6, 15-6 SEC) for a couple of innings but a strong Aggie offense sealed the deal for the nation's leader. 
 
The Texans led TAMU for the first two and a half innings, but a three-run homer tied things up at 4-4, changing the momentum of the game.
 
Freshman Parrish Beagle got the start for Tarleton State with a perfect opening inning, striking out the first three batters of the game. In a scheduled bullpen game, Braydon Risley (2-5) took the loss after coming into the game in the third, giving up five earned runs on six hits and a walk, with two strikeouts.
 
Isaac Morton started things off for the Aggies with 2.0 innings on the mound, giving up a pair of runs on no hits, two walks and no strikeouts. Brad Rudis (W, 4-0) secured his fourth win with 2.0 innings pitched, giving up no runs on one hit, no walks and two strikeouts.
 
Tarleton State finished the evening with six runs on six hits, a double from Cris Enriquez and a stolen base from Mason Crews.
 
Texas A&M compiled 10 runs on 13 hits with three home runs, a couple of doubles and a pair of stolen bases. 
 
The Texans were first to the board in the second inning with a pair of runs tallied for the Purple and White. A couple of leadoff walks and a groundout saw a pair of runners in scoring position. A sacrifice fly allowed Enriquez to come home. A wild pitch brought Trace Morrison across the plate to put the visitors up by two. 
 
TAMU found their way to the board in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff solo home run to bring the score to 2-1.
 
In the Texans' half of the third, another couple of runs came in to bring the total to four for Tarleton State. A leadoff walk brought Tyson Drake onto the base path. Cole Miears singled and Enriquez doubled to bring Drake home. An RBI single from Morrison brought Miears across the plate to see a 4-1 score in favor of the Purple and White. 
 
In the bottom of the third inning, a three-run homer from the Aggies evened the score at 4-4. 
 
The home team continued bringing the heat offensively in the fourth frame with a leadoff home run. With one out on the board, the three-hole singled on a bunt. A groundout followed to record two for the Texans. A wild pitch advanced the lead runner and a single brought a second run in to bring the total to 6-4 for the Aggies.
 
The bottom of the fifth brought a trio of runs across the plate for Texas A&M. With one out on the board, a pair of singles were followed by a walk. As the second out was recorded a three RBI double did damage for the home team, bringing their lead to five runs at 9-4.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, a lone run came across as a balk with the bases loaded brought in the 10th run for the Aggies.
 
Tarleton State added another pair of runs in the eighth inning. A leadoff single from Enriquez got things moving for the visitors. With one out recorded, Hunter Smith walked to add another Texan aboard. The second out followed and Sergio Guerra was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ike Shirey singled to bring Smith and Guerra home for the final runs of the ball game. 
 
A scoreless ninth inning sealed the deal for Texas A&M for a 10-6 final.
 
The Purple and White will be back in action on the road as the Texans make the trip to Huntsville to take on Sam Houston for a weekend of non-conference play beginning Friday.
