Tarleton State Baseball falls flat offensively to drop pair of games in doubleheader Saturday at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Texan Baseball dropped Saturday's pair of games to the Bearkats to be victim of a sweep in Huntsville. 
 
Tarleton State (25-23, 15-9 WAC) fell short to Sam Houston (27-21, 7-11 C-USA) in both games of the doubleheader Saturday at Don Sanders Stadium, 3-2 in the first game and 2-1 to close out the evening.
 
Matt Haley (L, 2-7) got the start for the Texans with 5.2 innings on the mound, giving up three runs on eight hits, two walks and six strikeouts. 
 
Michael Watson (W, 5-1) started on the bump for Sam Houston with 7.0 innings pitched, giving up two runs on two hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts. Wyatt Tucker (S,4) went 1.0 inning giving up no runs on no hits, no walks and no strikeouts.

The Bearkats finished with three runs on nine hits with one double, one home run and four stolen bases.
 
Sam Houston drew first blood in the third inning as a lone run came across. The leadoff was hit by a pitch to start off the bottom of the inning. A pair of outs followed, and a wild pitch advanced the lead runner. An RBI single brought in a solo run to give the Bearkats the lead.
 
The home team saw another run in the fourth as the visitors remained scoreless. A single from the two-hole, followed by a stolen base and the second out recorded to set things up for Sam Houston. Another RBI single made room for the Bearkats at the plate to bring the total to 2-0.
 
The bottom of the sixth welcomed another run for Sam Houston. A solo home run saw the Bearkats record their third run. 
 
In the top of the seventh, the Texan offensive came alive with a pair of runs to put the home team on edge. A leadoff single from Ike Shirey started off the action. Cole Miears singled up the middle and made room for Shirey to come across. A flyout from Austin Russell brought Miears across the plate to make it a one-run ball game. 
 
The next inning and a half went scoreless to close out the first game of the day with a 3-2 final in favor of Sam Houston.
 
Braydon Risley got the start for the Texans in the final game with 4.0 innings on the mound, giving up no runs on four hits, three walks and one strikeout. Freshman Parrish Beagle (L, 2-1) closed out the evening for Tarleton State securing two outs, giving up one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout. 
 
Ryan Peterson took the bump for Sam Houston with 5.0 innings pitched, giving up one run on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Chandler David (W, 4-3) went 2.0 innings on the mound, giving up no runs on one hit, no walks and two strikeouts.
 
The Purple and White started off hot in the first inning, finding the board early with a solo run coming across. A pair of outs came immediately but Miears singled through the left side to get things in motion. Another couple of singles from Enriquez and an RBI single from Trace Morrison put Miears across the plate.
 
The next four innings went scoreless, but the Bearkats found some fight in the fifth with a single run added after leaving a combined total of seven runners stranded up to that point. A leadoff single saw a Bearkat on the base path. After advancing on a balk, a sacrifice fly made space at the plate for the a solo run to come across for Sam Houston. 
 
Across the next four innings, six Texans were left on base while the Bearkats totaled two in the runners stranded category. With none across, extra innings followed. 
 
In the top of the 10th, Enriquez singled with two outs recorded but the third followed to close out the Texans' half of the inning. 
 
A leadoff walk and a hit by pitch gave Sam Houston a pair of runners aboard. The first out followed but a double to centerfield brought in the game winning run to end the series at 2-1, with a clean sweep for the home team.
 
Tarleton State will be back in action Tuesday for a midweek matchup with Baylor in Waco, Texas at 6 p.m.
