PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Texans scored early and often Friday night in Prairie View as Tarleton State cruised over the Lady Panthers 3-0.
Tarleton State (2-1-3) scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of action at Prairie View A&M (1-3-0) at the PVAMU Soccer Complex. The first two goals were scored by Texan freshmen within four minutes of each other.
In the eighth minute, junior
Stevie Reynolds intercepted a pass and strode toward the right side, passing to an open Una Hlynsdóttir in the middle who promptly buried it for her second goal of the season.
In the 12th minute, the Texans peppered goalkeeper Jordan Shynett, and after a couple chances, freshman
Reegan Wagg got a good look off of a rebound and nailed it top shelf to put Tarleton State ahead 2-0. It marked Wagg's first collegiate goal.
In the 15th minute, Reynolds was back at it, driving around the defense and sending one past the goalkeeper's outstretched right hand to make it 3-0. This was Reynolds' first goal as a Texan.
Reynolds finished with a goal, an assist and four shots on goal. Kimberley Hjálmarsdóttir was credited with an assist on Wagg's goal.
Tarleton State outshot Prairie View A&M 12-5, including nine shots on goal to two by the Lady Panthers. Tarleton had
Mikayla Kendall and
Rylie Bloomfield in the box on Friday. Kendall got the start, and Bloomfield entered in the 21st minute, earning two saves.
This makes two wins over the last three games for the Texans after they started 2024 with three straight draws. Tarleton State has allowed just three goals over the first three games, blanking its opponent three times. The Purple and White are now 2-0 against PVA&M all-time with an 8-0 total goal differential.
The Texans, who are undefeated on the road this season (1-0-2), will go for back-to-back road victories with a Sunday night tilt at Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. at Lion Soccer Field.
