Morales’ singles, Lorca/Persson’s doubles performances highlight Texas State Invite

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Undefeated weekends from junior Ximena Morales and the doubles team of Noelia Lorca and Emma Persson highlighted Tarleton State Tennis' fall debut at the Texas State Invite.

Morales defeated all of her singles opponents from McNeese, Stephen F. Austin and Texas State. Lorca and Persson also went a perfect 3-0 in the doubles portion of the event.

Despite dropping the first set 3-6 in the first round of singles, Morales climbed back against Stephen F. Austin's Sonja Rooth to win the second set 6-4. The Guatemalan clinched the match in the 10-point tiebreak 10-6 to start singles play victorious.

Morales continued her momentum against Texas State's Emily Niers, only dropping one game in set one and coming up with her first bagel of the fall season to move her singles record to 2-0. Following a tightly contested set one against McNeese's Ana Hollweg, Morales dominated in set two 6-1 to mark an unbeaten singles weekend.

Junior Clara Sobius won both her singles matches in the Texas State Invite against opponents from Stephen F. Austin and Texas State. Picking up right where she left off at the end of the 2024 spring season, Sobius was one of two Texans to be named to the WAC All-Tournament Team last year.

After winning both of its doubles matches as a pair last spring, the strong chemistry between Lorca and Persson continued in San Marcos. Lorca and Persson swept all of its doubles opponents to capture three consecutive victories to begin the fall campaign.

"It felt great to be back on court. We had some ups and downs, but the team competed hard," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "Ximena had a tremendous weekend and I can't wait to see her fight again next weekend. We have work to do and I'm very excited to keep working with this team."

Tarleton State's fall campaign continues next weekend, with the Texans traveling to Boone, North Carolina, for the App State State Invite starting Friday.
