Tarleton State Women’s Basketball faces defending WAC champions California Baptist Thursday

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Tarleton State Women's Basketball takes on the defending WAC champions California Baptist at 1 p.m. Thursday in Riverside, California. 

California Baptist will be the fourth 2024 NCAA Tournament team the Texans play this season. The Lancers earned the automatic bid to March Madness by winning the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas last year. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 12:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State and California Baptist will meet for the seventh time in program history. The Texans are looking for their first win over the Lancers since the matchup began in 2021.
  • The Texans have won six out of their last seven games while the Lancers are currently 2-0 in WAC play. 
  • California Baptist's Khloe Lemon scored 39 points in the Lancers' last game, earning this week's WAC Player of the Week honor. 
ALL ABOUT EDUCATION
  • Tarleton State leads the all NCAA Division I Women's Basketball programs in Education Day games played this season. 
  • The Texans have already played four Education Day games this season (11/4 @ UTEP, 11/12 vs. New Orleans, 11/20 @ #4 Texas)., 12/16 vs. New Mexico State). They currently have a record of 2-2 in Education Day games. 
  • Tarleton State will play an Education Day game at California Baptist (1/16). 
  • The Texans hosted their first Education Day game at Wisdom Gym in the Bill Brock Era against New Orleans (11/12). The game ended with a 57-48 victory in front of 840 fans, mostly kids from Comanche Elementary School in Stephenville. They hosted Chamberlin Elementary against New Mexico State (12/16), resulting in a 65-55 win. 
AWESOME ACKER
  • Sophomore center Faith Acker has been a great scoring and rebounding threat for the Texans this season. 
  • Acker made 10 of her 11 shots and scored a season-high 21 points to go with nine rebounds in the win at Arkansas State (12/19). Acker's 90.9% shooting set a new single game Division I program record with the highest field goal percentage (min. 10 shot attempts).
  • Acker currently leads the Texans in double-doubles with two this season. Her most recent one came at #24 Nebraska (12/11) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Acker had the first Tarleton double-double against a nationally-ranked opponent (#24 Nebraska, 12/11) in the Division I Era. Her 11 rebounds were the most by a Texan player against a Power 4 conference opponent in the Division I Era.
  • She surpassed the 200 career rebounds as just a sophomore against LeTourneau (12/7), having 157 in her freshman season to average over five boards per game. 
  • Acker recorded her first double-double of the season against Delaware (11/29) with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Texans to victory. 
  • She is two blocks away from cracking the top 15 for career blocks in program history. 
BENCH BOOST
  • The Texans had 34 points off the bench against Utah Tech (1/11), the fourth game this season Tarleton State has had where 30 or more points came from players off the bench
  • Tarleton State has won seven out of its nine games in 2024-25 when it scores at least 20 bench points. The Texans are now 7-2 under Brock when the Texans have at least 30 bench points.
  • The Texans scored 37 points against St. Mary's (TX) (12/21) and also grabbed 31 of Tarleton's D1 record-setting 59 rebounds. 
  • Tarleton State's bench scored a season-high 56 points to help the Texans to the 99-34 win over LeTourneau (12/7). It is the most bench points by the Texans since Dec. 4, 2021 (70 vs. Arlington Baptist).
  • Freshman guard Grace Booth recorded her first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds off the bench against LeTourneau (12/7).
