Tarleton State Women’s Basketball takes on Southern Utah in Cedar City Saturday

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Tarleton State Women's Basketball wraps up its Utah road trip this week at Southern Utah Saturday at 3 p.m. at America First Event Center. 

The Texans are coming off a 70-61 victory at Utah Tech on Thursday, their 13th win of the season and fourth win in WAC play. Tarleton State has won their last two games in a row. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 2:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State and Southern Utah will meet for the sixth time. The Texans lead the series 3-2 and won the previous matchup 64-53 at Wisdom Gym.
  • The Texans have won their previous two games while Southern Utah has won two out of its last four WAC games. The Thunderbirds suffered a close loss against UTA 62-58 on Thursday
  • Senior guard Miannah Little is this week's WAC Player of the Week after dropping a career-high 24 points against ACU (1/23). 
MIANNAH MAKES 
  • Senior guard Miannah Little has been named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
  • Little is the first Tarleton State player this season to earn a weekly award from the WAC. She is the first Texan to earn the conference's weekly honor since Jan. 2, 2024.
  • Little scored a career-high 24 points and made six 3-pointers for 60% beyond the arc shooting against ACU (1/23). She is the first Tarleton State player in the Division I Era to hit six 3-pointers in a game and the first since Kaylee Allen (6 vs. West Texas A&M, Jan. 19, 2019).
  • Averaging 17.5 points per game over her last two games, Little has scored in double figures six times this season. In addition to her performance against ACU, Little led the Texans with 17 points off the bench to lift Tarleton State to a come-from-behind win at Houston Christian on Nov. 26.
  • Prior to her arrival in Stephenville, Little was a NJCAA First Team All-Conference guard at McLennan Community College. Pairing with Tarleton State head coach Bill Brock, Little and McLennan Community College went 28-5 during the 2022-23 season. The Highlassies made history with Little, reaching 20 wins for the first time since 2013-14 and receiving one of eight at-large bids to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championships. 
DISHING DIMES
  • Tarleton State dished out 18 assists at Utah Tech (1/30), with seven different Texans dishing out a dime. It was the second straight game the Texans had at least 18 assists. 
  • The Texans are 5-0 in games this season where Tarleton State records at least 18 assists.
  • Tarleton State has recorded three games with 20+ assists, with the season-high being 25 assists against LeTourneau (12/7). 
  • Tarleton State has recorded 10+ assists in 13 straight games. The Texans are averaging 16.4 assists per game in WAC games this year. 
  • Two current Texans are in the top five for single season assists in the Division I Era. Senior Jakoriah Long is second in single season assists in the Division I Era with 76 in 2023-24. Senior Arieona Rosborough is currently fifth in single season assists in the Division I Era with 62. 
GREAT ON THE GLASS 
  • The Texans grabbed 20 offensive rebounds at CBU (1/16), their third straight game with 20 or more offensive boards. It is the first time since 2009 (at Texas A&M Kingsville, Angelo State, Central Oklahoma) that a Tarleton State women's basketball team had 20 or more offensive rebounds in three straight games.
  • Grabbing 59 rebounds to set a new Division I Era program record, Tarleton State defeated St. Mary's (TX) 64-31 on December 21. 
  • The Texans lead the WAC in rebounding margin, outrebounding its opponents by 7.6 boards per game. They are currently in the top 50 in the nation in that category. 
  • Tarleton State has outrebounded its opponents 16 times this season, winning 11 of those contests. They have outrebounded every opponent in the WAC this season.
  • The Texans have had four different players have a game with at least 10 or more boards.
