STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Texan Soccer will be taking on Southern Utah on Sunday afternoon for their second conference matchup of the season. The match will kick off at 2 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field in Cedar City, Utah.

Tarleton State fell to Utah Tech 0-1 in a tight defensive battle at Greater Zion Stadium on Thursday night. The Texans (7-6-3, 1-4-1 WAC) lost by a goal to Utah Tech (6-5-4, 2-2-2 WAC) on the road in a defensive stalemate just 11 days removed from beating them by a goal in an offensive onslaught in Stephenville, Texas, 4-3. Rylie Bloomfield started at goalkeeper, making her first start of the year and her second appearance. She earned eight saves, the second most by a Texan goalkeeper this season. Utah Tech scored a lone goal in the 54th minute to take the win. The Texans and Trailblazers each had 14 shots on the game, with Utah Tech owning a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

In their last matchup with Southern Utah, Tarleton State dropped to the Thunderbirds 0-2 in their Purple Out match. Southern Utah scored a pair of back-to-back goals in the second half to take the 2-0 lead. 18 Texans appeared in the Southern Utah matchup. The Thunderbirds outshot the Texans 15-6 and had a slight corner kick advantage of 2-1. Mikayla Kendall remained in the net for the entire game and recorded six saves for the night, with five coming in the second half. 

Tarleton State has shattered several team and individual records so far in the 2025 season. As a team, the Texans have set new single-season records in goals, assists, and points. The Texans were 6-2-2 heading into conference play, clinching the best non-conference record in program history. The team also earned their longest winning streak in program history after earning their third straight win against McNeese earlier this season. Stevie Reynolds and Sammy Schulze each have five assists and are tied for second most assists during a single season. Reynolds also set the new single-season points record with 23 points and recently set the shot on goal record of 22. Reegan Wagg is not far behind with 19 shots on goal. Gabrielle Williams is currently third in goals in a single season, and Kendall has recorded 332 career saves, the most in program history. 

Williams is one of only two athletes in program history to have multiple multi-goal games. The forward has scored five goals in six games. She scored goals in back-to-back games against Utah Tech and Abilene Christian. As of Oct. 15, Williams was fifth in points, tied for third in goals, and tied for 10th in shots during conference games. 

Senior defender Kaitlyn Flanagan was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week for week four. This award marks Flanagan's first weekly honor and the first defensive award for the Texans in the 2025 season. The senior was the third Texan to receive a weekly honor in four weeks, following Stevie Reynolds and Jaycie Bass earlier this season. Flanagan has started all 16 games and has played 10 full matches in 2025, scoring two goals and one assist. Flanagan was the first Texan defender to put goals on the board this season. 

Bass was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week for week three. She was the second player in just three weeks to receive a weekly honor for the Texans, her first in her four-year career. Bass has notched four goals and three assists to record 11 total points for the season. The senior has started the last 14 games for Tarleton State, recording a total of 773 minutes played and was the fourth person to score multiple goals in a game in program history. 

Reynolds has been a key asset for the Texans so far in the 2025 season. As of Sept. 19, the senior was nationally ranked 1st in total points, T-2nd in total goals, and 9th in goals per game. She was also one of only 10 players in the country to have scored six or more goals in the 2025 season as of Sept. 3. The forward is now first in program history for total goals scored in her Tarleton State career (14), surpassing Mila Bettinelli's previous record of 11. Reynolds was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week for week one. During their game against Texas Southern, Reynolds set the new single game shot record with seven shots and tied the single game shot on goal record of five shots on goal. She was the only player in the WAC to score multiple goals in one game through week one and was one of 35 athletes to score at least three goals in the first week.  

Emma Barnes has been a defensive standout for Tarleton State this season. In her third straight starting appearance, Barnes set a new personal career record with nine saves and 18 shots faced against UTEP. The goalkeeper has appeared in nine of the games for the Texans, recording 28 saves and allowing only five goals. Prior to this season, Barnes had only started one match, occurring as a freshman back in September of 2023.  

Head coach Pete Cuadrado is in his 22nd season as a collegiate head coach and his fourth season with Tarleton State. He began his career at North Dakota State before moving to Wyoming in 2012, and then to TSU in 2021. Cuadrado currently has 194 career wins, securing 26 of those with the Texans.  

11 new athletes entered the program for the 2025 season, as well as 16 returning Texans. TSU's 27-woman roster includes seven international players from two different countries: Australia and Canada.   

Eight current Texans have been pillars in building the foundation of the program, competing with Tarleton State Women's Soccer since its beginning in 2022. These athletes include Mikayla Kendall, Rylie Bloomfield, Avery Harr, Kyra Goudzwaard, Kaitlyn Flanagan, Teeghan Dodd, Jaycie Bass, and Macy Hellwig. All eight athletes are now academic seniors and will be graduating during the 2025-2026 academic year.   

The 2025 WAC conference schedule consists of 10 games, with only six teams being active members in the league this year. The 2025 WAC Tournament will be hosted by Utah Valley and will be held at UCCU Stadium in Orem, Utah from November 5-8.  

Tarleton State will play one sole game next week, taking on Abilene Christian on Saturday evening. The match will take place at Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene, TX and will kick off at 7 p.m.
