Tarleton State holds off Abilene Christian in 1-1 draw

ABILENE, Texas - Tarleton State Women's Soccer ended Saturday night's matchup against Abilene Christian in a 1-1 draw.

The Texans (7-6-5, 1-4-3 WAC) took on the Wildcats (5-9-3, 1-4-3 WAC) at Elmer Gray Stadium on Saturday, closing out their final road match of the regular season. Sam Liaty scored the sole goal for TSU, her first of the season, with an assist by Sammy Schulze, and Rylie Bloomfield recorded six saves for the Texans.

This marks the second tie between the two teams in the 2025 season. Their first draw came just two weeks ago when they faced off in Stephenville, TX, ending the night 2-2.

Liaty opened the night for Tarleton State with a goal in the 23rd minute. After receiving the ball in right field, Schulze sent it flying across to the far side of the goalie area where Liaty knocked it between the legs of the ACU goalkeeper and into the opposite corner of the net to put the Texans on the board. This goal marks Liaty's first of the season and fourth in her Tarleton State career.

Later in the half, sophomore Reegan Wagg had another good scoring opportunity, taking a shot from the top center of the box. However, the ball went flying just barely right of the goal post, keeping the score 1-0.

With six minutes left in the half, Bloomfield made a great diving save in the net to hold off the Wildcats. After dribbling up center field, ACU took a shot from the top of the box, but Bloomfield made a quick dive to the right and caught the ball before it made it into the net.

The Texans were able to hold off the Wildcats until the 68th minute, when they scored on a long shot from midfield.

Bloomfield made another diving save late in the second half, this time with a block in the bottom corner of the net. After receiving a go ball from midfield, a Wildcat fired a shot from the top right corner of the box, but Bloomfield was ready.

The Texans recorded five shots for the night, with four being on goal. Both teams had an even number of fouls, and ACU had a single corner kick advantage over TSU. Bloomfield ended the night with six saves, and six Texans played the full 90 minutes.

Tarleton State has a big week ahead of them as they return home for their final two matches of the regular season. On Thursday, the Texans will celebrate Soctoberfest by taking on California Baptist at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, Tarleton State will honor its nine seniors for Senior/Greek Life Day in their final home game against Utah Valley. More information will be provided about both events.
