Tarleton State Women’s Basketball starts three-game road trip at nationally-ranked TCU Thursday

FORT WORTH, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball's three-game road trip starts with one of its toughest non-conference matchups of the season, facing No. 10 nationally-ranked TCU at Schollmaier Arena Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

Tarleton State will face TCU for the second time in program history. TCU will be the second top 10 nationally ranked team the Texans have faced in the last two years.

TCU is the defending Big 12 Conference champions and are coming off an Elite 8 appearance last year. They picked up a nationally-ranked win at NC State Sunday.

The Texans won the first matchup with TCU in 1978, before Tarleton State was an NCAA school.

Fans can watch Sunday's game on ESPN+ and can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network.

  • Tarleton State and TCU are separated by 80 miles and an hour and a half, but the two schools have not met in women's basketball since 1978.
  • Tarleton State, who was nicknamed "The TexAnns" at the time, defeated the Horned Frogs 77-72 in San Angelo, Texas.

  • The "TexAnns" won 20 games that season, repeated as TIAA Regular Season Conference Champions and qualified for the AIAW Regionals.
EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS
  • Tarleton State plays the best of the best, especially in the state of Texas
  • Thursday's game marks the second top 10 matchup with a Texas school under head coach Bill Brock. The Texans traveled to Austin to face No. 4 Texas last year.

QUEENS OF THE BLOCK
  • Tarleton State will have a pair of shot blockers in its frontcourt in Tessa Engelman and Elodie Lutbert
  • Engelman has five games in college basketball with 3+ blocks, including two this season. Her most recent game with 3+ blocks was against McNeese (11/16, 3).
  • Engelman spent her first two seasons as a defensive force for Mount St. Mary's, tallying 30 blocks as a sophomore in 2024-25.
  • Engelman's five blocks on Feb. 6, 2025 at Iona were the most by a Mountaineer player in a single game since Nov. 2019.
  • Lutbert recorded three blocked shots in Tarleton State's exhibition against #25 K-State, matching her season-high with three against McNeese (11/16).
FILL THE TANK
  • The theme for Tarleton State Women's Basketball in 2025-26 is "Fill The Tank."
  • Picked to finish sixth in the WAC preseason poll, Tarleton State finished second in the conference standings and has won 20 games.
  • The 20 wins in 2024-25 are the most by a Texan team in the Division I Era.
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball earned a first round bye in the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament after getting the WAC's automatic bid to the tournament. The 2025 WNIT marks the first Division I postseason event for Tarleton State Women's Basketball.
