Tarleton State Women’s Basketball tips off regular season with Monday night matchup against Schreiner

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Basketball is back and Tarleton State's women's team will tip off its 2025-26 regular season campaign against Schreiner on Monday at 7 p.m. at the EECU Center. 

Monday night's matchup marks the first-ever regular season basketball game inside the brand new EECU Center. This is the first meeting between the schools since 1994, with Tarleton State facing Schreiner for the first time in 31 years. It will be the first meeting since the Texans moved to Division I. 

Tarleton State is coming off a 20-14 season in 2024-25. Schreiner had a record of 6-19 last season. 

Home games in the debut basketball season at the EECU Center start at just $7 for kids and $10 for adults. Fans can purchase single game tickets by going to TarletonSports.com/Tickets or by calling the Tarleton State Ticket Office at 254-968-1832. Fans may also purchase in-person at the Tarleton State Ticket Office located on the west side entrance of Memorial Stadium Monday through Friday. 

Season tickets are on sale now and start at just $50. Combination season ticket packages for both Men's and Women's Basketball begin at $125 and are available for purchase by calling the Tarleton State Ticket Office at 254-968-1832. 

FILL THE TANK
  • The theme for Tarleton State Women's Basketball in 2025-26 is "Fill The Tank."
  • Picked to finish sixth in the WAC preseason poll, Tarleton State finished second in the conference standings and won 20 games. 
  • The 20 wins in 2024-25 were the most by a Texan team in the Division I Era. 
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball earned a first round bye in the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament after getting the WAC's automatic bid to the tournament. The 2025 WNIT marked the first Division I postseason event for Tarleton State Women's Basketball.   
WELCOME BACK
  • Tarleton State's 2025-26 roster features three players that did not play Division I basketball last season, but will do so this year. 
  • Gia Adams was an All-WAC player at UT Arlington in 2023-24 before transferring to North Texas. She did not play at UNT. 
  • Caroline Lyles was injured at Akron and did not play in the 2024-25 season. 
  • Luka Malinka played Division II basketball at Roosevelt in 2024-25. She played at Winthrop and Northern Colorado before transferring. 
  • Having players come back to basketball after a year off is not new for the Texans. Niki Van Wyk was a key role player for the Texans last year in the Purple and White, returning to college basketball after taking the 2023-24 season off. She played in 31 games, starting three, and scored 141 points (4.5 points per game).
QUEENS OF THE BLOCK 
  • Tarleton State will have a pair of shot blockers in its frontcourt in Tessa Engelman and Elodie Lutbert
  • Engelman spent her first two seasons as a defensive force for Mount St. Mary's, tallying 30 blocks as a sophomore in 2024-25.  
  • Engelman's five blocks on Feb. 6, 2025 at Iona were the most by a Mountaineer player in a single game since Nov. 2019. 
  • Lutbert recorded three blocked shots in Tarleton State's exhibition against #25 K-State.  
LEADERS OF THE WAC
  • Tarleton State led the conference in four categories: Field Goal Percentage Defense (38.5), Free Throw Percentage (75.8), Rebounding Margin (7.6) and Rebounds Per Game (38.03)
  • The Texans finished second in the WAC in Offensive Rebounds Per Game (13.2), and Scoring Defense (58.2)
  • Tarleton State was third in the WAC in Bench Points per Game (19.7), Offensive Rebounds Per Game (12.9), Scoring Margin (5.8), Three Point Percentage (32.0), and Winning Percentage (60.6).
