Tarleton State Women’s Basketball starts December with road contest at Mississippi Valley State Tuesday

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Tarleton State Women's Basketball will open December on the road, taking on Mississippi Valley State at R.W. Harrison HPER Complex at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Tarleton State will face Mississippi Valley State for the first time in program history on Tuesday. The Texans are coming off a road win at Texas State last week 56-45, eyeing their first win streak of the season.

This will be TSU's only non-conference trip outside of the state of Texas this season. It is the first time in the Division I era and the first time since the 2019-20 season the Texans traveled just once outside the Lone Star State in non-conference.

No video stream will be available, but fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Live stats will also be provided through Sidearm.

OLD STOMPING GROUNDS
  • Senior guard/forward Kyriana Jones returns to Itta Bena to face her former team.
  • The Little Rock, Arkansas, native played her freshman season at Mississippi Valley State and shined against some of Mississippi Valley State's largest opponents in 2022-23.
  • She Scored 11 points in 19 minutes with three rebounds against the eventual national champions, LSU. Jones also scored a season-high 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from distance to go with a season-high five rebounds against Alabama State.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE DUO
  • Tarleton State's post players make for quite the duo, especially when posting double-doubles.

  • Brackens (16 pts, 10 reb) had her second double-double of the season while Lutbert (10 pts, 12 reb) posted her first double-double at the collegiate level.
  • With Brackens' and Lutbert's double-double, it is the first time this season a pair of Texans have recorded a double-double in the same game. It is the first time since March 14, 2025 two Texans had a double-double in the same game.
  • Brackens is the first Texan since 2020-21 (Callie Boyles) and second Texan in Division I Era to record two double-doubles in the first seven games of the season.
  • Brackens, Lutbert and senior guard Jakoriah Long (11 pts, 10 reb vs. HCU) are the only players to record double-doubles for the Texans this season.
STAYING IN THE LONE STAR STATE
  • Tarleton State will only leave the state of Texas one time during the non-conference portion of the schedule (Dec. 2 @ Mississippi Valley State).
  • In addition to already playing at Texas A&M, at #10 TCU and at Texas State, the Texans will go to Abilene for a multi-team event Dec. 19-20.
  • With its only non-Texas game at Mississippi Valley State, it is the fewest out of state non-conference games Tarleton State has played in the Division I era.
