Tarleton State Tennis wins second straight with home victory over New Mexico

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis held serve on its home court and defeated New Mexico 5-1 on Saturday at the Tarleton Tennis Facility.

The Texans picked up a pair of victories in doubles and followed up with four wins in singles to secure its sixth win of the season. Tarleton State remains undefeated at the Tarleton Tennis Facility with a 4-0 record in 2025.

"We played well today. We stayed true to our game plans and competed hard against a tough opponent in New Mexico," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "We still have a lot of work to do this year, but I feel like we are slowly moving in the right direction. The team is motivated and excited to get back on court next weekend."

Looking for a fast start in doubles, Tarleton State turned to its doubles duo at the No. 1 spot, Maretha Burger and Emma Persson. Burger/Persson, who picked up their second WAC Doubles Team of the Week award this past week, came out victorious once again. The duo defeated New Mexico's Maud Vandeputte and Rebekkah Gains 6-3 on Court 1 for their seventh doubles win of the season.

Senior Noelia Lorca and junior Ximena Morales helped the Texans clinch the doubles point, winning in the No. 2 doubles spot 6-2 to move Tarleton State in front 1-0 in the match. Lorca/Morales picked up their third win of the season as a doubles duo.

Despite losing in doubles on Court 3, junior Clara Sobius bounced back in singles. The junior Canadian won in straight sets at the No. 6 singles spot 6-2, 6-4 to clinch her fourth singles victory of the season.

Junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova continued the Texans' dominance in singles and picked up her sixth win of the season, the second-most on the team. Mukhutdinova came up with her fifth bagel (6-0 set) of the season in set one and won set two via tiebreak for a straight sets victory 6-0, 7-6 (5).

Both Lorca and Morales carried their momentum into singles, eventually helping the Texans clinch the match. Morales took care of business at the No. 4 singles spot and cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 straight sets win. After winning a tightly-contested set one at the No. 2 singles spot, Lorca clinched the match for the Texans after defeating Vandeputte 7-5, 6-3 on Court 2.

Persson led in her singles match at the No. 1 spot, with Court 1 going unfinished after the match was clinched. Tarleton State did not lose a set in singles on Saturday.

Tarleton State goes on the road for its next match and travels to Oral Roberts on Friday. First serve time is to be announced.
