Tarleton State Tennis claims third straight win with victory at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. – The win train keeps on rolling for Tarleton State Tennis, who picked up its third consecutive win today with a victory at Oral Roberts 6-1 on Friday at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.

The Texans won every match but one on Friday, claiming two doubles wins and five singles victories. Winning its seventh match of the season, the Texans have won 70% of their first 10 matches for the fourth straight year.

Victories from Maretha Burger/Emma Persson and Maria Castano/Clara Sobius in doubles allowed the Texans to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Burger/Persson, the reigning WAC Doubles Team of the Week, now hold an 8-1 record and both players won eight of their first nine doubles matches for the second straight season. Castano/Sobius picked up their sixth win of the season as a doubles duo.

Oral Roberts responded with a win on Court 1, but the Texans refused to let the loss slow them down. Tarleton State proceeded to win the next five singles matches, winning two of them after losing the first set.

Castano allowed the Texans to stay ahead in the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 singles spot, picking up her eighth singles win of the season. Junior Ximena Morales came up with her fourth singles win of the season thanks to a 7-5, 6-4 victory over ORU's Luna Morini on Court 3. Junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova won her seventh singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win at the No. 5 singles slot.

A pair of Texans bounced back after dropping the first set, starting with Lorca at the No. 2 singles spot. Dominating in set two, 6-2, Lorca completed the comeback over ORU's Chara Grammatikaki for the three-set win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Spaniard has now won four of her first five singles matches in 2025.

Sobius dropped the first set, 6-2, but refused to let that get in the way of her fifth singles win of the season. The Canadian grabbed momentum in set two before winning six of the final eight games of the match for the 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Cassie Cervantes on Court 6.

Tarleton State Tennis returns to Stephenville for a three-match homestand next week. The first of the home stretch takes place on Thursday at 1 p.m. against Tyler Junior College at the Tarleton Tennis Facility. Admission is free to all Tarleton State Tennis home matches.
