Tarleton State Tennis wins fourth straight with home victory over Tyler JC

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis picked up its fourth consecutive win on Thursday, defeating Tyler Junior College 7-0 at the Tarleton Tennis Facility. 

The Texans picked up their eighth win of the season and remained undefeated on its home court with a 5-0 record in 2025. Tarleton State did not lose a set in Thursday's match. 

After picking up their fourth WAC Doubles Team of the Week honor on Tuesday, senior Maretha Burger and Emma Persson showed the fans in attendance why. Burger/Persson won six of the seven games played on Court 1 to cruise to a 6-1 doubles victory. The duo improved their record to 9-1 on the season. 

Tarleton State clinched the doubles point with a victory on Court 2 from senior Noelia Lorca and junior Ximena Morales. Lorca/Morales defeated Tyler Junior College's Sylvie Peart/Sherin Scheerle 6-2 on Court 2, improving to 4-1 as a doubles duo. Junior Clara Sobius and freshman Maria Castano won by walkover on court three. 

Obtaining the WAC Singles Player of the Week award on Tuesday, Lorca continued to showcase her dominance. Lorca only dropped two games on Court 1, defeating Amelia Devlin 6-1, 6-1 to move her singles record to 5-1 on the season. Lorca, the WAC Fall Invitational singles champion, picked up her 23rd singles win in a Texan uniform. 

Leading the team in singles wins heading into Thursday's match, Castano's ride in victory lane continued. Picking up her fourth bagel (6-0 set) of the season in set one, the freshman from the Dominican Republic was victorious on Court 2 with a 6-0, 6-3 win. 

Burger made her second appearance of the season in singles and dominated action with a 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 4. Sobius won her sixth singles match of the season with a 6-3, 7-5 victory on Court 3, helping the Texans clinch the match. Morales and junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova claimed wins by walkover. 

Tarleton State continues its homestand on Sunday at 11 a.m., taking on Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech at the Tarleton Tennis Facility. The match will be available to watch on WAC International and live scoring will be provided through iOnCourt. Free admission is offered for all home Tarleton State Tennis matches.
